I don't think that would stand up in a court of law.

Viagra 30 mins before said court starts and I reckon it just might

I done a bucket collection door to door once. Ended up with 64 buckets.

Some bloke kept knocking on the door looking for a donation for Dogs Trust. After a good few calls, my missus pointed out that going around what would be a relatively poor area, looking for people to sign into a direct debit to help 'mangey auld mutts', (her words) wasn't his wisest move.
    He never came back.
Actually I think lower socioeconomic areas tend to do better for door-to-door sales and charities (especially the animal ones).

I know what you are saying. No company or person has the right to bother people in their own home. Can't argue. But on the other side I cannot agree with giving someone abuse too. Not unless they provoke it. Like not taking no for an answer while they pitch Sky TV or constantly knocking on a regular basis.

I get a charity calling to the door every second week over here in the UK. I'm usually nice enough and just say that I'm not interested and kind of apologise and tell them to have a nice evening. But a guy called to the door on Saturday evening at around 8pm when I had friends over and quite a few post-match drinks on me and before he could get into his spiel I said "Charity is it? Sorry, no thanks" and closed the door in his face. I still feel bad about it now.:(

I had a artist try sell me stuff at like 9pm. Pretty random and was in no mood to look at art of any kind.

Trust me. What you did would be seen as polite to people who do door to door. Nothing to worry about.

    Clever woman in the OP!

She'll be running that Centra by next year.

Think this is a common scam selling mass produced Chinese paintings

One of them roared in my letterbox. "I know your in there you little bitch you could atleast answer the door".
I was strolling around in the girlfriends pink dressing gown. He must have sen me. I dont do it for kicks sometimes I just get up to smoke and put it on.
I went out the back door snuck around the side of the house and gave him a few slaps in the garden in my pink angel dressing gown.
Was waiting for the gaurds to call for weeks but he never reported it.

8.65 min wage per hour * 39 hour week is more than 120

If centra doesn't work out, I hear that spar in the IFSC are looking for women.

You wouldn't see them coming around as much these days but the fellas that used to sell various types of insurance were very pushy, they didn't seem to know what the words "no I'm not interested" were.

Whats the story with them knocking on the door at 9pm? Starting to piss me right off....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭chrissb8

It would take hours of work just to make a mere 35 euro. People could be right jerks as well. She'd see people in the sitting room just looking out... not a chance of opening the door and showing some courtesy. Asking too much.

People are entitled to answer the door to whoever they like in their house. There's no manners about it. Unless you're food ordered a friend/family member calling in or a scheduled call in of any other kind then why. Would you answer your phone if it was vodafone crapping on about nothing. I don't think so. I don't care if I hurt their feelings. They know the job they took. Door to door people are annoying end of. Even if they are doing their job they usually keep talking until you can't get a word in. Now that is not having courtesy.

Same here! Always the same crowd too. I think they said they were the ISPCC or something, I'm not too sure, the kids were always roaring too loudly from the hunger to really hear what they were saying properly..

Never done door to door myself as I know I couldnt stand it. But my girlfriend used to do Betterware and it was terrible.

But the one that annoyed me the most was she put a catalog in this one house, was only 2 houses down (like less than 30 seconds later) and the owner just throws the catalog out on to the road while shouting something.

Glad she doesnt do it anymore.

I would generally answer the door and say no thanks, but can easily see why someone ignores these door to door sellers. The courteous thing would be to not disturb people - they didn't ask your girlfriend to come round and try to sell something.

Well, she'd only have to work 14 hours to make over €120. Anything more is a bonus.

Door to door selling/collecting should be made illegal.

Also An Post should not deliver non addressed mail (leaflets)

The home is a place where you should be able to escape all of societies crap

Last night - One knock from dogs trust at 7.15 another from some electricity company at 7.30....... I try to be polite but I find the nicer I am the harder it is to get rid of people at the door. Getting sick of it now

I had a lad call recently trying to sell an Eircom broadband/TV package. He asked who I was with, so I very politely said that I was with UPC, I'm happy with them, and don't want to change so there was no point in wasting his time. He starts asking "How much do you pay?", "We're cheaper" and got more and more aggressive. "Do you not like spending less money, and for a better service?". I was just waiting for him to get to the stage of "Are you stupid or something?". He got more condescending/patronising the more he talked and I really should have slammed the door in his face.

His durty ratten Dub accent didn't help his cause either...

Whole they're a royal pain in the hole, you can't help but feel sorry for the poor folk lumbered with these door to door sales jobs.

I had the exact same thing!, I told the guy I was with electric ireland and I was happy and didn't want to change and he rolls with a 'so, you WANT to pay more do ya?'

    stick it

The best tactic I find and the one I deploy the most is to not answer the door.
I never answer the door, particularly during the week unless I am expecting someone.

If my folks or friends call over its always planned in advance.

I haven;t been caught at the door for ages. I usually have music or the tv blasting, the place lit up like the Bailey, so they know I am in, but they get the hint... save for one guy... 4 or 5 mins ringing and ringing... now that took willpower... almost had my sword down off the wall but resisted in the end...

Well pretty much if they want an actual full time position ( although she might just earn 80% of minimum wage in first year, and 90% the year after). She also might be paid more than the min wage eventually, certainly if she moves up the ladder. Of course she may not want that as a career, for now its a better option if available.
