One ADSL line four IP addresses how to distinguish.

A client of a friend has just had a second ADSL line installed with four public IP addresses associated with it. What he needs to know is how can he tell which of the IP Address's incoming data is coming to?

We've tried searching but haven't managed to find anything. We suspect that data directed at any of the IP Addresses will be routed by the ISP to the single physical line without any differentiation, which defeats the object of having different public IP addresses.

With a proper router you can have the control to do whatever you want with traffic coming to each IP. What exactly do they have in mind?

What they need is a router which can distinguish the destination IP of traffic coming into the WAN port.

If you wanted you could bridge it over to 4 different hosts or just just 4 different NICs.

You bridge them, you need an enterprise router along the likes of a Cisco, Mikrotik etc, not one that NATs a single ip on a class c subnet like the residential gateway router all ISPs provide. This is not something you'll be able to configure without good networking knowledge.

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for.

I should have searched multiple public IP's with one router not with one adsl line.

DD-WRT is router firmware, not modem firmware. You won't find a modem/router combo that can run it, you will have to bridge a modem and add a router that takes DD-WRT.

News to me, how many modem/routers does DD-WRT actually support?

I still think you'd be better with a bridged modem and a Mikrotik, can get a RB750 for 25 quid or a RB951 for 45. This would be miles more powerful router and have many times the ram of any of the DD-WRT routers. Of course he'll need to put in some time reading up on any of them, not for novices.
