Wedding Receptions. Satan's Plan to Inflict Misery on Humans?

I hate wedding receptions. I think they are a form of psychological torture which can only be dealt with by people drinking themselves into oblivion so they can try and forget they are at something as miserable and fake as a wedding reception.

Everybody hates them, only a small minority of us are not scared to admit it.

The trick is to get drunk early, it can be a great night then.

you do realise that the RSVP usually has a box to say that you won't be able to make it??

Get tipsy on free wine with dinner and it's all uphill from there.

Ahh don't be so bitter! Weddings can be lots of fun if you are going with a good crowd. Dress up, drink some nice whiskey and have a dance.

Ah not forced ;-0 ....but if everyone else was getting tanked, so was i.....although the church where we got married, (only a little village) the only pub was a minute walk from church...so everyone piled in there after mass....and so did we.....one of the best photos of the day was the bridesmaids holding up my wifes dress as she walked to the pub.

I meant getting married, not drunk!

I'd love to have a less formal thing finger food and booze...

I find it the perfect set up for a hard night of drinking. The early pints are soaked up by the monster meal which in turn provides further soakage for the drinking ahead.

This is so true...the meal is the key for a long session

    Everybody hates them,

    Speak for yourself.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

In fairnesss anyone I ever speak to in their 30's seem to hate them. I have only ever been at one friend's wedding, and it was like a college reunion, so I enjoyed it a lot.

Can imagine 8 weddings a year being a super duper pain in the ring though, not to mention a pain the wallet.

The reception part is fun. It's the mass and waiting around for ages while the wedding party take the perfect pictures that is a chore. I'm usually starving by the time it comes to eat.

The lull between the meal and the music is the killer for me. You can sit in the bar while the photos are being taken.

The speeches is another one. I was at a wedding once where for some reason they decided it would be a good idea to have the speeches after everyone had ordered but before any meals had been served. I was so hungry the table cloth started to look appetising.

Grand if they're short and funny, a nightmare otherwise. I was at a wedding where the father of the bride droned on for half an hour.
