How are they and whats their take on the whole Russia/Ukraine situation?

Im a practising catholic, I'm not eating meat today. I know other catholics who are. Thats fine, its their choice. I know people who wouldn't be practising catholics who aren't eating meat today. Thats fine too. Coming in and saying 'LOL PAEDO PRIESTS IM GUNNA EAT STEAK TODAY' is not fine. Grow up.

Hardly, it's just a silly 'rule' which I doubt even has a strong Biblical origin.
have I even said I'm a practising Catholic?
    Really? Reeeealy?

Little Kiwi was asked what he will be giving up for lent by his teacher (because of course lent is relevant to a 5 year old child with atheist parents). His answer was "Cleaning my room". Haha. Am so proud of him I might let him away with it.

I had some leftover baked ziti that I made from scratch yesterday, spent enough money to make it for myself and the parents,

Wouldn't throw it in the bin on Thursday after the meat goes off in it to please God and have fish Ash Wednesday instead.

I'd sooner burn in hell than throw out half a dish of ziti which was 20 euro worth in ingredients!

FFS either eat meat or don't...simples

The amount of fookn zealots that come out of the woodwork in these threads never ceases to amaze me, religion or lack of, has a lot to answer for...

I'm out, enjoy your jihad peoples.

I ate a lovely ham and cheese toastie but had salmon for dinner which was lovely too.....don't care to be honest what people do today whether the eat meat or not......there choice

I remember last year walking into Dunnes and all the salads were meat free....the deli had no ham or chicken..... didn't go near the meat counter so don't know what was there......but found it weird that still woundn't serve meat considering the different religions and people who don't believe.....its not the 1950's anymore!

Threads like this one (which several are complaining about being childish etc) result directly from the type of behaviour and attitudes described above. Is it not enough that Catholics avoid meat on whatever days their religion/bible/priest tell them? Why do the management of Dunnes or the local chipper impose it upon their customers? Do they only have/want Catholic customers? Can Catholics not make choices from the range of regular meat free salads, without having the ones that contain meat removed for their comfort?

Had meat today. Not one bit bothered by "social convention" with not eating it on certain days.

If I make it to the Pearly Gates, I can't see St Peter going " Sorry Ted you ate some meat, you're not allowed in"

But if you let your son get away with not cleaning his room for lent, are you then by proxy agreeing with the idea of lent as he would be as involved in lent as a child who has given up sweets

Except i) Catholicism is not a 'take what you want' kind of religion: you either follow all the rules, or you're not actually a Catholic, and ii) for centuries Catholics were not content just to practise their religion themsevles; instead they wanted to impose their rules on everyone.

I see we are all near the end of the light tunnel in this thread. The folk that enjoyed a meaty dinner today are happy and full.

And I see the folk that enjoyed their day of no meat, relaxing after having tasty nicely cooked/fried fish and some vegetables as well.

    We've all been fed well...

It's a win win, everyone is happy. Was this thread irrelevant ? No... Was this thread angry with other folk, regarding a food substance of choice today ? Yes.

Enjoy the food for knowledge, get stuck in big-time, as there might not be a tomorrow. My Linda McCartney sausages are better than yours scenario.

Im sure God can take it.
But honestly. For 'the one true faith' it sure seems to have been set up by God and those who do his work really really badly what with all the changes to the rules its had to make over the last 2014 years.

Went to Mass in Belfast City Centre today and it was probably the biggest crowd I have seen at Mass in my time going there over the last twenty-five years.

Cod, chips and onion rings tonight for tea - a most rewarding experience!! The chippy was packed - when I placed my order, the fella taking the order shouts over his shoulder, "How many fish left?" "Twenty-four" was the reply. Out of curiosity I asked how many they started the day with. 'Five hundred' was the answer.

Is it supposed to be some sort of penance to stuff yourself at the chippy? What a fcking joke
