Are you going to start a thread on Sunday saying 'Guess what. I wasn't at Mass today'.?

All the seriously cool/hard 1970s/80s kids didn't go to mass

Tragic thing is, there are still people around who still try to claim it (and eating meat on Ash Wednesday) as the definitive measure of their rebel credentials.

Some dreadful insecurity in beliefs in this topic.

Presumably those here with such a burning distaste for christian beliefs will be foregoing the St.Patrick's day celebrations as well?

Eh, which part of the St Patricks day celebrations are religious again?

    I'll be forgoing those bits.

And the bits where I'm supposed to hate all the gays

All of the festivities surrounding Saint Patrick (even the ones in very poor taste) are essentially celebrating the Feast of St. Patrick and therefor have their basis in a religious feast and figure.

If a gay man eats some cock on Ash wednesday is his sin multiplied?

    If so by how much?

If the gay man doesn't believe in gods is it still a sin?

The "saint" part is a strong hint as to what the celebration is for.

    Vegetarian cocks are sacrosanct, presumably.

"the christians" probably don't understand the point you're trying to make.....there was a point right?

St Patricks day is on the 17th March. 17th March is during lent this year (and most years), yes.

No, they're not. Where did you get that idea?

And yes, St Patrick's day falls during lent. What's your point?

Ash Wednesday is for wusses anyway. Ye should try Ramadan, starving yourself of food and water for 16 hours a day for a month. I was teaching classes of Muslim students during the last one and the poor f*ckers were passing out all over the place.

You mustn't get steak often then. Careful not to bite your tongue.

I have to say, I would have no problem doing that. I prefer to eat late anyway and have often gone more than a day without even realising I hadn't eaten. It's not very good for you though and can be dangerous for some people too.

You'd want to be some boy to do that for a month solid. Also not being allowed to drink water in the middle of a London heatwave in July is no craic whatsoever.

Wow, you eat the same thing every Wednesday. You're sounding more rebellious by the minute. I bet you once didn't hand your homework in on time as well.

Nope. Egg for breakfast, pasta for tea.

Lent or Ramadan - should I do both to double my chances of not pissing off the real god??

"Real god" - terms and conditions apply!

Beans with a fry is a holy disgrace. Even worse than eating meat on Ash Wednesday.

The Thur in Thursday refers to the Norse God Thor.
Thor was just as fictional as this st patrick guy.

The idea of patron saints and norse gods etc are all just relics from our past just like Harvest Festivals (halloween/Samhain). It's a public holiday in ireland, I'm an Irish citizen. It's not a religious festival by any stretch of the imagination.
