What was that 70s detective show?

Maybe somebody out there can help save my sanity - I'm trying to remember the name of a 70's detective TV show. I remember watching it as a kid and the main character always seemed to be working on buliding his house in his spare time...

Dan Tanna from Vega$ looks a lot like him and could possibly even be the show but I don't know. The guy was a jeans wearing and possibly cowboy hat toting cool dude.

Was Dan Tanna always working on his house when he wasn't out crime solving?

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Bizarrely, I was only thinking of this programme at the weekend- Petrocelli was the show. Yes, the ongoing theme of him never finishing the house was a major issue for me as a kid!

Petrocelli! That's the one! Fair play to everyone who remembered from those very vague recollections. Yeah, I think I grew up with closure issues because of that house...
