Hope his would-be assassins allowed him time to wipe and pull the chain before they pulled the trigger. Be a bit of a smell otherwise. If not, pillar of society, paid his debt, Gilligan must've been mortified lying there looking like he'd defecated on himself whilst the paramedics attended to him.

They slam 6 bullets into his hide and can't kill him?

Where are the real professionals when you need them.

6 bullets now is it? Won't be long before a grenade was involved

Would it constitute a hijacking of this thread if we compiled a list of prominent people who died on the toilet? The only other one I can think of is Elvis , and I realise JG is not actually dead (yet), but we could have a sublist of people who nearly died on the toilet, any advance on Elvis?

I realise we could broaden this out to people who died (or nearly died) in, rather than on the toilet, just to make it interesting?

He'll be on the LLS next week and every radio show over the next week or so making money off the back of it.

Did he have a name for Gilligan?

When he was brought back from England by the Gardai in the yellow /green jump suit and taken to Portlaoise prison the other inmates had christened him Laa Laa after one of the telly tubbies. He was not amused.

@Joe Prim... When I use the toilet after ten pints of Guinness it always smells like something died. Does that count?

"John Gilligan survives despite being shot up to six times and getting Last Rites"

Even the priest had his fingers crossed the bastard would die.

What an embarrassing headline to be fair. "Shot up to six times" .. He was either shot six times or he wasn't and if they don't know then why are they guessing. They clearly haven't a clue like.

Yesterday he was wearing body armour, today they say he wasn't. Yesterday it was three bullets, today it's four. Oh no wait it's six.

No offence intended to you mate, the papers are just an embarrassment and it's the same whether it's to do with Sport or Crime or anything else. Can't understand why anybody would buy them.

I heard Chuck Norris was the hitman, but Gilligan outsmarted him.

Likes of you make me sick.

That's the level of humanity we have in the world.

Wishing pain and suffering on others.

Doesn't matter one iota to me if the man is literally the Devil re-incarnated. The whole world is in bits largely because of the likes you wishing to continue the cycle of pain and suffering by wishing it upon others.

If it makes you feel better that a 61 year old, who is a very bad person, is now suffering and in pain, great, have a good day and have a good life going around wishing pain, suffering and misery on every bad person in the world.

Here's an idea, and it's only an idea, but instead of spending your lives wishing more misery and suffering in this already depressing world, do one positive thing to change the world.

You can start here if you like:

An hour you waste wishing more misery on bad people could be better spent offering an hour of support to those the bad people have wronged.

    Good for you.

I'll never forget what he did to Veronica. The baldy bastard.

He's a bad person - what goes around, comes around! Wouldn't wish harm on anyone, but his lifestyle and choice of career had it coming to him. Defo his own doing. RIP Veronica

Am I missing something? Sunday Indo has a piece by Jimmy Guerin that calls Gilligan a murderer on the front page.

Was he ever actually convicted of a murder?

Understandable that Jimmy Guerin would write such a piece but incredibly irresponsible to publish it if its never been proven.

Staying alive is a bigger issue at the moment for him!!! Would be like something he would do as a joke but I'd say at the moment he is shook to the core

They have left themselves open to it. Incredibly irresponsible from the editors.

Sunday World got caught a few years back in a similar fashion.

If he were to lose a defamation case I cant see why he would end up in prison?

It'd be an easy case if he were to open proceedings. He probably won't survive long enough but thats not the point.
