    Hi all,

I am replacing the carpet in one of our rooms with a laminated floor and i am wondering if I could leave the underlay from the carpet and place the floorboards on top, or do I have to use the usual white underlay?

I don't want any sweating/smell problems in the future

    Thanks,

I wouldn't, underlay for laminate floor is designed for that purpose.

Carpet underlay has more bounce and if old could have a lot dirt/dust mites etc.

The last time I put down laminate flooring I took up the carpet and underlay, hoovered the floor using a small screwdriver to clean out the groves between the floorboards.

Then used the white laminate floor underlay making sure to butt the edges, I used parcel tape to hold the joins together.

No, too spongy. You run the risk of the boards splitting at the edges. Use the intended underlay.

Cheers lads...I went ahead and used the laminate underlay. Just seemed handy to leave as is but you are both right, best to do it right
