Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And if you click the light intensity down to the minimum setting they last for ages and still just give enough light to read by or keep the kids happy.

    Ikea don't do houses, but...

QB2 is a post-and-beam structure developed jointly with Bolton Buildings. The outer structure can be assembled and made waterproof in around 4 hours and the whole structure (including inner and outer wall surfaces, the windows/door, the insulation, and the electrical wiring) can be completed in 3-4 days. Options exist for cladding and for fitting out and, once constructed, QB2 is easily transported by road and sited wherever a static caravan is permitted.

Was bad but worst I ever saw was in the UK, I stopped driving about 100 yards from our gate and all the traffic was stopped the guy in a mini in front of me opened his door to get a better look at what was going on and the water was rising so quickly it ran straight in through the drivers door. Luckily most other cars were out of the worst of it.

@tabnabs; have you seen IKEA's emergency shelter, designed and built for the UNHCR? Unveiled lately and expected to cost $1000, it's a flatpack with a solar panel, designed to be quickly erected in disaster zones.

Hadn't seen that, many thanks for the heads up.

Clever stuff (if a bit grim looking)

It's a bit basic but I suppose it'd do as a quick solution.

Have seen that design and construction method used and wasn't really impressed. I got the feeling that if you let the wind catch the door once that would be the last you'd see of it. But as a choice between that and the open air I'd give it a go.

don't see the point of starting a new thread for this, would anyone be able to recommend a good general purpose knife one which would be suitable for most tasks

The Mora clipper is possibly the best all round knife when price is taken into account.

Second that. I've a lot of knives and the clipper gets used most. A good folding knife imo would be an opinel. Comfortable in the hand, lockable and keeps a great edge

Don't like the wooden handle ones anymore as I tend to find the wood swells up a bit in our damp location, but used to carry one for years.

I keep meaning to try one of the newer plastic handled ones http://www.opinel.com/uk/tradition/specialistes

I nearly bought one when I first saw them but was put off by the whistle and shackle key which I thought were a gimmick but I'm coming around to the idea.

Anyone feeling lucky? A 40 acre property ("farm") going for raffle, 2000 tickets costing €250 each.

Maybe we should put together a consortium for a group BOL? :D

I'd be up for putting €50 into a ticket if I could get 4 more to join me in a flutter.

"Doomsday prepper" gets arrested after appearing on the TV show:
    doomsday_prepper.jpg

Smith is the leader of the survivalist group Spartan Survival. He founded the organization in 2005 to train and prepare others for various doomsday scenarios.

The problem is, Smith is a felon, convicted of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes and theft. He's not supposed to go anywhere near a gun.

"Even if he doesn't own the guns, he can't handle, have those weapons, fire them (or) possess them in any way," said Pierce County Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer.

Just watched Storm Nation on Sky1 about the flooding in the UK and what could happen in the future. Had to laugh at one woman she was watching the flood water getting closer and closer to her house for weeks  and complained that no one from the government warned her that it was possible that her house could flood so she could be better prepared  You see it with your own eyes over a number of weeks and you are not prepared your an idiot plain and simple

Another one on the news had me in fits going on and on about the council not providing any sand bags and if only the council had provided sand bags her house would not have been flooded

A young lad in the UK (but not as young as you'd think) put up a video of his overnighter.

There's a mix of David Brent and Harry Enfield in this guy, but not on purpose, so it makes for some very entertaining viewing. It's one to watch with a beer in your hand rather than a notebook! :pac:

But can you play Angry Birds on it? ;)

A lot of unconfirmed reports going around that fraudsters stating they are from Irish water knocking on doors saying they have to check your pipes and turn off valves to do with the water meters so they can rob you. It seems to be mostly old folk they are targeting so keep an eye on older family members. If I see any confirmed reports ill ad them

I'm looking for replacement toothpick, screwdriver heads (for the cybertool) and scissors spring.

Google them, they have a wholesale warehouse elsewhere in dublin. Possible the shop clised but they are the distributors for a fair amount of brands so id say they are still operating. They usually have boxes of parts for everything they sell
