He lacks self belief and aggression, kind of the same a Toner a few years ago. I think he has potential he just needs to learn not to give a **** and get on with it and get a run of games

Unfortunately that part is beyond his control.

Mad to think he was held in the same regard as Eben Etzebeth back home 3 years ago. Hugely different careers now

I'm almost certain this came up before and it wasn't the case. Etzebeth is held in the same regard over there as we would hold someone like Henderson, Roux never was, I'm pretty sure he didn't even make their U20 team

Correct. Comparing Etzebeth and Roux is akin to comparing Henderson and Ben Marshall.

They were never rated at the same level. Roux never made an underage South African side but worked hard and made the bench in the S15 a few times. That was the height of it.

I must be on my own but I thought he looked good against Cardiff. He made some pretty glaring defensive errors but I'm looking at the raw material, he's got lots of potential, a great athlete and very physical.

I'm with you. He has blown hot and cold in games, but when putting in a decent shift he looks promising. Whatever about Denton having a decent game last time out.....he has been utterly and consistently shocking previously. At least Roux has shown some promise, and with some proper game time I think he can become a good player for us.

    So, for Glasgow

    McGrath
    Cronin
    Moore
    Cullen
    McCarthy
    Ruddock
    Murphy
Conan (this is a bit of a wild card, but playing at 7 might help Jordi's international cause and I'd love to get a look at Conan again)
    Reddan
    Madigan
    Fitzgerald
    Reid
    Macken
Fanning (going by bib theory it looks like.. again.. sigh)
    Kirchner

Nice to see Goodman is alive, being in a few pics recently

seems like his waist line is in good health :pac:

like Berquist it's a shame injury hampered their spell here but at least it forced our hand at giving some of the younger guys a chance

With Ruddock playing I'd have Denton or Roux over Cullen

How does Fanning play for Leinster? He got shipped from Connacht didn't he? And he's not going to improve much or become an international. Why not give some upcoming players some wing time.

Never thought of it like that before

Surely McFadden will play ahead of Fanning. If so, that's potentially a very strong team to be sending out for a game during the 6N.

I suppose yeah, bib theory falls down a bit there, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of him in the training pics

Why will he not improve? Surely training with the Leinster squad every day will improve him?

Glad to see you'll write him off on the basis of Connacht letting him go a few years ago.

Fanning gets a lot of slack but the reality is that he's a solid error free winger even if he doesn't offer a whole pile else

It's not so much him I have a problem with, it's that the weighting of gametime has been way more in his favour compared to someone like Hudson than I think it should have been.

And I disagree on error free, he's pretty average under the high ball and is prone to the defensive blunder.

Its only Monday, maybe the internationals get an extra day off, or maybe he is in camp with Joe and will be released later in the week to Leinster

Just looking at the A lineups and Hudson is being picked at full back with Coghlan Murray and Fanning on the wings this season. So on the back of that it looks like Fanning must be doing something in those games to get picked ahead of the other two lads.

Yeah I haven't seen the A games, but hugonaut on LF, whos opinion I'd trust, has said that the persistence with Fanning over Hudson (or at least the disparity in how often they've been used, Fanning has six times as many minutes as Hudson this season) is still inexplicable to him as someone who has seen them in both A games and senior games.

Hudson is leaving at the end of the season, theres your reason.

But would he be leaving if he'd got more game time?

I actually think the other way around. Flashes of brilliance but far too error prone, in terms in positioning and defence.

Yeah I've caught a couple of the games and Hudson def stood out far more than Fanning. No question.

I how different Conway's place in Irish rugby would be if he'd stayed at Leinster...he certainly isn't thriving at Munster anyway

I would imagine he would be in an almost identical situation except he'd have hair.
