I voted Fianna Fail in the past and I am not ashamed of it. If I return home I will most likely do the same again.

Well considering they represented quite a lump of the electorate for so long, I must have at some time.

Not something I would retain or even enquire about when meeting somebody.

I'm certain the people who have called canvassing for them over the years were FF supporters.

Hope you don't actually think the rest of them are any better.

Why? In another thread you're going on about the "astute and tempered" politicians in your adopted Germany yet you vote for cretinous populists when you return home. Seems contradictory.

Yeah I have. But I havent spoken to anyone that believes labour is doing a good job in Government. They have pretty much shat on most of their pre-election promises

In Ireland we have little choice. FF are held up as some sort of boogeymen. Its nonsense. All throughout the boom, the opposition were calling for more tax cuts, more social programs, more reliefs for the property market.

In my opinion FF is the party in Ireland that has generally had the more capable politicians. They are perhaps the best of a bad bunch.

I also would more broadly agree with their social policies, than FG who are more conservative.

Agreed that our political class is of a very poor standard by western comparison but they are rightly held up as a bogeyman as they have .governed the country with some interruption since the beginning. They set the very low standard, particularly in the seventies and the eighties, that the others had to follow if they were not to see themselves obliterated by FF. That's why I have no time for them. Your 'they're all the same ' argument is pretty lazy and clichéd imo.

Yeah, I used to have relations with one until he revealed his dark secret. He has been permanently banned from my presence.

That could actually be Fianna Fail's slogan at the next election. The others are better in so far as they haven't bankrupted the country twice whilst enriching themselves.

I've barely met anyone who says yes 'I'm a Fianna Fail Supporter', but before the last election I met loads who said something along the lines of 'I'll be voting for Sean, we always do' - Sean being the latest FF Scion that 'we' (the voter and their entire family) always vote for.

Can't blame someone else for your own actions. It always amazes me why they don't adopt muchhigher standards it would be a massive vote winner and lead the way for all political parties.Presumably they're so entrenched in their ways they're incapable of changing.

I voted FF in the past, the old man was FF all his life but I chop and change, have voted SF the last few times.

I despise Labour and would never vote for them.

And some day you may link emigration with Fianna fails mismanagement of the economy for their own self enrichment - FF bankrupted Ireland in an attempt to protect their pals, and you'll vote for them again?

FF, FG.. there's no real difference. One ran the country into the ground, the other sealed the deal and has perhaps the worst Taoiseach we've ever had - not to mention their fondness for dipping their hands in your pocket by abusing Revenue.

We don't have a REAL alternative in this country. People won't vote SF (forgetting that the other parties are hardly any better) and the Independents are mostly the worst examples of parish pump shyte that we really need to get away from.

Given the choice next time though I'll probably vote FF as FG outright lied to get into power, are just as incompetent and shady as FF (as the current scandals illustrate), and are just so arrogant that they deserve an electoral hiding - though just as their predecessors did I fully expect the leadership to "retire" or feck off to Europe rather than face the voters!
