Looking to get a telephoto lense for a Caonon DSLR 600D. I was told to look for one between 70 - 210mm. Had a look on amazon and found two of similar size with 2 very different prices. Could anyone let me know roughly what prices ye paid for the ones you got online and exactly what specs i should go for.

Hoping to try and get one at a decent price. Not looking to pay full price for them.

    Thanks

You probably need to go for a 70 - 200 L lens with IS (image stabilisation).
    Similar to this advertised

or this Mark 2 version as advertised

Not cheap I know but probably best lens for your camera in that zoom range

Yes I'd go along with pixbyjohn, the MkII version of the 70/200 is simply the very best tele you can get in this lens range.

If you've got the budget for the 70-200 mk II then it is the royalty of telephoto glass. If you're looking for something a little less then either the mk I canon 2.8, the f4, or the tamron, the sigma is normally quite a bit cheaper but it's old style sigma before they started building wonder lenses, it's not in the same league.

    Hi,
Have you considered the 18-135mm stm lense from Canon? I find it a good walk around lense with decent zoom capability while maintaining a decent wide angle range at 18mm. I find it a good bit sharper than other kit lenses. I bought a 55-250 a couple of years ago and it has never really come out of the bag (might sell if you're interested). The point made about the Sigma 10-20 is well made, but again I bought one of these thinking I would use it more than anything else but I find that I rarely need the extra field of view.
    Just something to consider.
    K

I would go for a 70-200 f2.8 with IS, it doesn't have to be Canon L or Nikon. The Tamron version is supposed to be very good.
