Mazda 6 v Opel Insignia

I'm looking for a bit of guidance here ... looking to get a new family saloon car and have the search narrowed down to a Mazda 6 (new model) or an Opel Insignia.

Have been reading reviews online for both, and I'm leaning towards the Mazda 6 as it is likely to hold it's value better in the long term over the Insignia. Both seem to be reasonably economical.

But does anyone have any opinions that may help convince me one way or the other? Has anyone any experience (pros or cons) of either that they would be willing to share?

I like the look of the mazda 6, in that regard i think its a nice looking car. really like that shade of red that mazda use in these models.

The Insignia is a decent car to be fair, but the Mazda is nicer to drive, better looking, and has a better engine with much more space inside. It wouldn't cost me a second thought to be honest.

The Mazda is the newer car, better engine too. But it is very expensive. You might get a very good discount on an Insignia if you shop around meaning it could sway you. The Insignia is still a good car though but the Mazda is an excellent one.

Have an Opel Insignia 160PS SRI, a lovely car to drive and reasonable to service.
Mazda are lovely too, only pitfall with a Mazda is that they are expensive to service.

Mazda 6 is by far a much nicer car. The insignia has been on the road since 09 and hasn't really changed that much.

To be fair they revamped the engine range in them too. I'd still have the Mazda though as it will be less mainstream.

The facelift to the Insignia is one of the most extensive I've ever seen for such a thing! New interior, instrument binnacle, looks, engines etc. It's a lot more than what passes for a 'facelift' with many other cars.

Whatever has more BHP and has a higher power to weight. Cars haven't improved much in 10 years. People who have driven low powered Insignias reakon they are dirt whereas those who've reviewed higher powered versions think they are great.
What you want is a car where you put your boot down and it rockets forward:)
A bit of comfort and a nice interior and exterior helps also:)

Drove a hire Insignia last year and I found the driver's area and footwell very cocooning.
    I don't like cocooning.

The new infotainment set up in the Insigina is pretty impressive. Fuel consumption claims are either also very impressive, or utterly ludicrous.

Got 2 Mazda 6's delivered up today, and that is a seriously good looking motor. One Soul Red, the other Aluminium - both Executive SE spec. Interior of the Mazda isn't quite up to the level of the Insignia - still too much shiny black plastic, but the space, looks and drive of the Mazda make up for it.

Ignore the entry level Executive Model - it's not too bad, but the Executive SE is the one to go for. Dealers also have a larger margin on the Executive SE, so should do a better deal.

You'll push a better deal on the Insignia though. SC 140ps is the big seller. Usually available from stock with either the Plus Pack or upgraded 17" wheels - go for the Plus Pack, and you don't really need to add anything further.

Im also looking at these cars. Just wondering which would have the better reliability.
Id be looking at the sri 160bhp insignia or the 2.2 163bhp mazda 6. Both in 2010 models.

Have seen a few around the 90,000 mile mark.
    Just wondering about reliability though.

Wouldn't take a chance with the Mazda 6 diesel of that vintage, still stories of serious issues with them even though not as common as on the older 2.0d.

How about the Passat and Superb.

CC version of the Passat might be worth considering if one likes the style of the Insignia

Personally I think the CC looks very nice especially with leather inside.

And Mondeo is worth considering too imo

Sorry to jump this thread, but reliability wise . . . Would the 2010 / 2011 insignia be a reliable car? Any common major faults or issues ? Would they be as reliably as the same year avensis?

I've had 09 insignia elite for good few years and only issue was heater plug and power steering hose recently changed under warranty claim.

Done some miles in it to, few jaunts through France and Spain.
