Hi, I was someone might be able to shed some light on a problem I’m having. I have a 03 Ford Fiesta and for the past week when my car is ticking over at lights etc. it keeps revving up to 2rpm(it is not happening every day but seems to happen after the car has heated up). I brought it to a garage and was told it sounded light the engine was sucking air so the had a look and could not find anything, and they cleaned the throttle filter to see if that would make a difference, and this morning I noticed when I was slowing down and changing gear the battery and oil light flashed for a second and started revving again. Is my car safe to be driving?

The engine reving up could be caused by a couple of things. Is it petrol or diesel?. Ive seen different sensors to cause this fault. Ie mas map temp sensors and crankshaft sensors. Your car needs to be plugged in while its reving and sensor readouts checked also it could be caused by injectors or fuel rail presure sensor problems. Its hard to put your finger on which of the above or a combination of them could be at fault you need to get it plugged in explaining when it happens and how long it takes for it to happen wether the temp outside is hot or cold etc all this info will help the tech go diagnose the fault. Best of luck.
