Who here has their own YouTube channel, where you regularly upload videos? And if so, do you make any money from it?

I'm just curious, because I came across this website yesterday. I searched for some of the channels I subscribe to and was amazed at the money some of the channels were, potentially, making.

    It's called socialblade.com

It's a site that does statistical analysis on YouTube channels, and shows estimated monthly and yearly earnings.

It shows group data, like top channels etc. and you can also search for individual channels.

Yeah, that's what inspired me to start this thread. Couldn't believe it was possible to make such an amount!

Never heard of PewDiePie before I saw that website though.

No, I don't, and I imagine it'd be quite hard to get enough views to make money. I always liked Oney's video which is somewhat related to the topic:

I've got a channel with about 200k views over the past few years. I've made about 50 euro.

If really depends on whether your videos attract people who are going to follow advertisements.

Not got a channel myself, but I know a guy who does, he's Irish.

    Makes a living from it.

It's crazy the amount of money some of those gaming channels make for playing a game, talking over it and uploading it. I obviously don't have the figures but it's those pesky naive kids that click every video and make them 100s of thousands.

Like, favourite and subscribe it really helps me out makes me loads of money. Manipulating 12 year olds is all they're at.

SocialBlade is also a Youtube Sponsor, so if you have a channel that's doing half decent, you can apply on their site for sponsorship

I just checked my channel and was offered sponsorship but it seems more like one of those networks that skims your ad revenue. I keep on getting invited to join a network and I don't really know if I would benefit. You usually have to sign up for 2 years.

Manipulating? They provide regular, often daily entertainment for money. Just like television's being doing for decades! It doesn't even come out of the kids' pockets.

I was thinking the same thing but you never know, it might be worth it. Yeah 2 years is a bit of a pain. Reading the contract is by far the most important thing. I know several youtubers that have had their channels closed down after their contract was finished.

You'd swear the kids were being swindled or something? It's not just kids, don't know where you get that impression. The channels are highly entertaining for the groups who watch it. (I personally prefer the commentary axed as it does my head in, usually watch Longplays/TAS instead for this reason)

I had a video on there once that was monetized and went viral on a small scale (10,000 views in a day) and as far as I remember I was getting €4 for every 1,000 views. Not that great really and that's supposed to be really high apparently the average is like €1 for every 1,000 views so unless you're fairly popular on there you're not making much.

The videos that make money are ones where the content can be directly related to advertising.

Gaming videos are highly profitable because the people who watch them want to buy games, so the gaming advertisements are far more clickable then on any other video content type as far as im concerned.

A big money maker is tractors. In fact most farming videos are popular. a friend of mine makes videos about classic bikes, vintage guns and vintage tractors and has views all over the world. Tractors are the most popular and the biggest money makers. A lot depends on the country of your audience. France and Italy are poor for revenue. Indonesia likes bike videos.
And from the stats on my lace channel, I have enough Mohammeds to start a jihad, enough priests to become a cardinal and enough brothers to fill a monastry. In fact 15 % of my lace making is viewed by men.
But tractor porn beats them all.
