I was walking down camden street the other day and a guy was wheeling a load of the Slate mag into that dodgy record shop, everyone who walked by took a copy. So what do you think of this free little mag/zine?
Myself, I have been known to laugh out loud on the 77 at some of the articles. It seems to have settled quite well with young dubs. Do you think its a good mag or not- simple as that. I didn't know where to put this by the way because literature didn't seem like an apt place for this.

ah sure its a bit of fun.

its a bit southside middle slass for me... but y'know....

mickeyjoehartes number on the front of the last one was brilliant..
sometimes its funny sometimes its dopey.

but i know people who are afriad to say they don't like it for fear of being uncool.

in reality its run like a very clever business and is making a lot of money from ads.

its used to be the trinity school paper, and the guy who runs that runs the slate now.

Decent mag. They take the piss out of just about everything in Dublin, I dont know how they manage to get away with it most of the time. Club & Gig reviews are decent and up front.

A trinity head with a sense of humour I find that surprising:p

No but I have to say, fair dues to them, its been fairly sucessful, however their style of writing is sometimes the equivalent of a pre-pubescent teen, and this IMO sometimes lets it down.

yeah, how did they get through the strict screening process, blah blah. reminds me of the bull**** when i was in school, all girls from school A are sluts all girls in school B are tight.

the slate is brilliant. its quite hard to get as most people take a good few copies for their mates. the pictures of faces above the
computer game section is excellent. i have the "jamie bulger killers join boyzone" issue which got front page headline on the sun. i too wouldlove to get back issues if available, should be all on computer so they could reprint. they had a great guide on taking part in the mayday riots they had little esso token for your petrol bombs!

saw them on that sampler program. what happened to that program anyway it was great.

It seems to be most available at the Dublin metal hangouts for some reason.A metalhead friend of mine gave me the May issue today-funny sh1t alright,he gets them regularly, though he never mentioned where exactly, though thankfully Bedlam says its in HMV.
Did you read the review section where they totally savage Paul McCartney and his overpriced gig?"The word kunt was invented for this man".Along with their reviews of "Justin Timberfuuck""The Dandy Wankoffs"and others you are guaranteed a laugh.

"Ive seen better bands drip out of Saddam Husseins arse"

Im going to use that at every availavble opportunity from now on:D

They also make a good point about McDowell and his references to Ibiza Uncovered and other shows which have not been on the tv radar for around 5 years now.

It must have the most comprehensive club/gig guide in Dublin, which is odd considering its a free mag.Must be raking in ad revenue.

Does anybody actually win their compos?Like the swim in the Liffey for a picture phone comp?Or composing U2 lyrics to send to an obsessive Italian fan whos letter to Bono they somehow intercepted?
