The thread is about the best compliment though. I think the girl who posted that should have higher standards for compliments.

It was said by some randomer I was just talking to on a night out who was chancing his arm and got nowhere. I thought it was fairly funny and that's why I posted it.

No need to worry about my standards.

"You are VERY good at that".

And no, not a reference to my pot washing ability.

The real dumbass would then say "you must have had lots of practice".

Well I have had, to be fair.

My mother insisted we all learn to hoover properly.

Best one I got was "I know that everyone says you look like the Elephant Man, I can see the resemblance, but your fore head in not quite as big".

Was told I look like tom chaplin the lead singer of keane, not the elephant man..but jaysus :o

I get more compliments from men than I do from women for some strange reason unfortunately

I'm starting to get the, "33? You don't look 33!" compliments which always amuses me. THIS IS WHAT 33 LOOKS LIKE, MAAAAN!! Am I supposed to be all wrinkly, bent over and decrepit with support tights and a blue rinse at this age? People mean well, obviously, but what idea do they have in their heads of a 33-year-old woman?

When I was in TY a girl at a house party told me I'd a very sexy voice "deep and rhythmic - like sexual chocolate" were her exact words iirc.

I was happy enough with that (they call me the white Barry White these days)*

    *(No they don't) :p

Well I've heard it from a few guys... And they still say it years later.

The topic of compliments came up on The Spin the other day, and I remember Gordon Hayden saying that when a man compliments a woman it can often get thrown back in his face. Like if a man says, "you're looking well, have you lost weight?" She might interpret that as, "was I fat before?" Or telling a girl you've just met in a club she has lovely eyes might sound a bit cheesy/OTT. It can be a bit of a minefield at times. It's probably best to keep it subtle, at least in the early stages anyway.

Well those were extreme examples. But even some of the simple compliments can get thrown back in your face. I actually find the Polish women respond well to the beautiful eyes line.
    Subtlllllllllle... ;)

Two odd compliments, was left a bit dumbfounded after both:

"I'd rip that skirt right off ya if I got half the chance"

    "You have a nice rack"

    Two most common compliments:

    You have nice eyes,

You have a nice bum/Your bum looks great in those jeans/You have a very toned bum/ I wish my bum was like yours (my little sister said this to me, awkward).

A lesbian girl i was chatting to told me i had really nice eyes. I appreciated that more because she wasn't just telling me that to chat me up or anything but genuinely thought i had nice eyes.

A lot of girls say they love my eyelashes because they are long but i find that one a bit odd.

I won't mention any of the put downs, I prefer to focus on the positives :D

Haha I got that Saturday night. My friend and I were out and another friend we've known for quite a while like, had absolutely no idea we were "that old" :D he insisted we must be taking the piss!

Same friend (female one) commented on an 11 year old photo of me yesterday and said I hadn't aged a day. Scooooooore \o/

:D Strange feeling having that said to you when you still think you're a young wan! I've a few friends who are younger than me here (late 20s) and they all insisted I look great for someone who was turning 34. I felt feckin' ancient!

I don't look younger than my years though and think I do actually look my age (which I really have no problem with as I don't think I look any older) but I think it's just a case of chung wans thinking 33 is over the hill. Jeeeaysus.

I work with a woman who is 40 and looks a lot younger. I told her she doesn't look a day over 39 which got a chuckle out of her.
