Was that in the good old days when we amateurs didnt try to mimic everything we saw on Sky/Golf channel coverage and end up playing 5 hour rounds and expecting the impossible from greenkeepers. ;)

When a swing plane was something a carpenter would use to make a childs toy :-)

I'm here trying to think of examples of the cringe factor of the sky golf studio part of their coverage, I can't remember the tournament but van de velde was having to "fill time" as they do talking about someone maybe/blowing a big lead.

You'd be writhing on the couch in front of it, it was worse than Brendan O'Connor.
That's only a few weeks ago someone might remember it.

That's your problem right there. There does be no riding on the couch in my gaff when the golf is on da telly.

I suppose your practise swings in front of the missus are a bit of a passion killer :-)

I think Sky Sports 4 should be changed to Sky Sports Golf

Im gonna ring them tomorrow about this :)

Ask them if they will allow you to subscribe to SS4 only ;)

Would suit me down to the ground, don't watch most of the other sports.

If you're looking to get a few quid off lads, call up (not all at once :D) and tell them you are going to cancel... It's a little bit like a game of chicken but I would be surprised if you don't get a half price offer for 3-6 months... pay full whack for 3-6 months after and rinse and repeat.

If you lose the game of chicken, they will happily accept your call to cancel the cancellation the following day :(

I have a love hate relationship with sky golf tbh.
For starters when I pay a significant monthly fee I expect not to be pestered by ads.
Secondly sky sports is very expensive and you can't just get SS1 or SS2 to get the golf. You have to get the whole package at €35.
And the whole package is becoming increasingly poor value what with losing ESPN, losing more and more football matches to BT sports. Losing champ league next year from what I've heard.

Bottom line is I love it but I'm near tipping point of cancelling anyway. Once champ league is gone I can't see how the few bits of golf I watch plus solid hours for the majors is worth €35 a month.

I might consider paying extra if I didn't have to listen to Mark Roe in studio

Really? What do you not like about him? I like him - he seems to speak his mind more than other pundits and is more inclined to not hang on the fence in fear of stepping on peoples' toes.

He has his quota of "Tiger is wonderful" statements to deliver, like all the others. It helps ratings apparently.
I'll say this for Critchley - he was prepared to call it like it was in Dubai.

I find that he is very negative towards players. For example during the recent WM Open he was very negative towards Bubba Watson you could see that he was delighted tht he did eventually blow up. If you looked at the @skysportsgolf twitter during the event there was quite alot of blowback for his negative outlook. I understand he is a pundit and is there to be a critic but after a while he gets a little much.

It will be interesting to see if BTs audience figures improve, from what I heard at the start of the season they weren't pulling in any more viewers than espn did with their offering but paid 3 times as much for the rights. Losing the CL will be a huge blow to sky, even if it's available on terrestrial tv.
Even if sky did a weekend pass or something, anything really instead of blanket fee of 36, must take all channels when golf is the only one I'd be interested in watching

I got BT since the December trial and the footie is very good on it. They seem to have a lot of the big matches. I like their European matches too. Add CL to that and all that Sky have left is Spanish football, Super Sunday - and the golf.

Sky are poor value atm imo. Sky have an overall great product and their hardware is excellent. But overall very pricey and the most expensive package - Sky Sports - seems to be seriously in decline.

They practically have a monopoly on the golf though. :(

I enjoy the studio panel for the PGA coverage but I think the commentary on the European Tour events is a bit sh!t.

I know golf isn't the easiest sport to commentate on but it seems to be directed at retired gentlemen with their feet up in front of the telly waiting for their butler to bring them their tea.

Some of the commentary on the European Tour events in South Africa is dire, and I find Wayne Riley a bit of a pain. But the PGA stuff is excellent.

I too love the golf on Sky, but originally got Sky for the rugby (European Cup), and also watched a bit of English Premiership rugby, but that's gone to BT now.

Yes, this spreading of stuff around the different providers is a total pain in the face for the consumer - very hard to justify several sports pay channels.

When it comes to showing sport you want a monopoly

In this instance competition between sports channels has resulted in a higher price to the consumer than the previous monopoly had.

It has also increased the range of sports available.

Whatever it is, if BT is showing it now, then Sky is showing something else. Currently 14 sports channels in my package (Setanta, Sky, ESPN, BT and Eurosport. I'm not interested in everything they show but between them they don't miss much.
I can understand being peeved to need two subscriptions to watch English football but if you have a wide range of interests, then the more the better.

People that enjoy all sports, who are happy to pay an extra 400 quid a year (to BT) to watch the same sports as before WITH the late night additional of Arm Wrestling (by Sky to fill some time) = Niche Market

It has just got too expensive.

I love my football and golf.

If I'm being honest the majors and big football matches and rider cup is all I need.

    not into rugby or UFC.

Rte or BBC hd does me for the Irish rugby.
Rte for a laugh at internationals.
have to review my outlay here.

I could skip the pro bull riding, WWF and the nags but I get a fair bit of value out of it.
It is a luxury though, I suppose you could always go to the pub for the big stuff.

Just did this last week. Told them I was cancelling and they gave me half price till August. Should get the four majors out of this. Ill think up of a new plan then. My three year old son might have to get the sky in his name. That comment earlier in the thread about Monty is hilarious. I wonder are his man boobs down between his belly button

    Sky sports 4 today.

Watching the LPGA tour now, then live European tour this afternoon.
I'll switch over to judge judy at 430 then back to the honda classic later on.

Living the dream when not able to go play of course.
