Can someone please clarify this for me... the minister said that this campaign will provide numbers for the next few years. Does that mean everyone in band one is competing for a place this year, people in band 2 will be competing for a place in 2015 and people in band 3 will be competing for a place in 2016?

Or are the people in band one, who are successful in all stages going to be placed on a panel and called over the next few years in order of merit?

Can I just ask how people did in the actual results? I'm gutted that I got Band 2 personally but I am wondering what sort of scores I can compare mine too, here they are:

    Verbal Reasoning
Your Score 4780 Qualifying Score 3829

    Discovering Rules - Abstract Reasoning
Your Score 6137 Qualifying Score 3831

    Online Questionnaire Garda Trainee
Your Score 4954 Qualifying Score 3695

    ----

    Thanks!

I don't think it's the former, but I don't think we have any clue how it works. If we rang PAS would they inform us of the process.

I like to keep results to myself but I will give you one 5500 in the questionnaire. Your results are good though. I would be happy with them. You have a good shot of getting through next year.

Aw, I don't think so I think as long as you aren't reaching the age cut off point you will succeed in the future.

Band 1, delighted. Placed 1593 so pretty happy with that. The example test had me worried but I found the actual tests much easier. Hope everyone is getting the results they wanted.

Well one way you could have cheated on the entire test was for yourself to register an account with PAS using another persons PPS number and downloaded a screen recorder for your computer it would have captured the entire test for viewing later so you would know the questions and answers you could have then used your own PAS account and completed the test.

That same test was used before for the emergency controller.

Anyway best of luck to all ! When is the next test?

That is why one test will be conducted in a managed location in order to compare your online test results with the supervised tests this will catch any cheaters out

That ya but you could have easily got a smarter person to do the exam for you! Thats another way of catching people out

I can't see how it will catch anyone out, if you know the test inside out. If you give them another test the results will of course vary from the online test.

While it's feasible, is it really plausible? In my opinion, if cheaters did cheat, the questionnaire had an equal weighting and there were no right or wrong answers in that only the truth and subsequent identification of suitability. Stupidity would have to be your chief quality if you think you can bluff your way through this process, it is quite rigorous IMO. I for one would very much hope that any cheaters would be weeded out because that approach is not conducive with a role in An Garda Siochana.

No chance that they'll eliminate the 4,700 people in band 1 and call instead on band 2 straight away - they'd be eliiminating 4,700 better-performing candidates.

What's more likely is that should they not get 300 ideal candidates from Band 1, they'll look to Band 2, and that applicants in band 2 will have a higher priority on applying again in future years - but only over first time applicants in those years.

Of course that's speculation and I could be miles off.
    Verbal Reasoning
Your Score 4780 Qualifying Score 3829

    Discovering Rules - Abstract Reasoning
Your Score 6137 Qualifying Score 3831

    Online Questionnaire Garda Trainee
Your Score 4954 Qualifying Score 3695

    Mine were

    Verbal Reasoning
Your Score 5146 Qualifying Score 3829

    Discovering Rules - Abstract Reasoning
Your Score 6068 Qualifying Score 3831

    Online Questionnaire Garda Trainee
Your Score 5577 Qualifying Score 3695

    and that was 3332 overall.

The thing about aptitude tests is that they are just that. They measure natural aptitude.

You can study how to interpret the questions, but you cannot study for the test. The only way to chheat is literally to have someone with a higher IQ complete them for you (except the third test, the questionnaire, in which case the only way to cheat was to have someone more suited to the role of a Garda complete it for you, or to provide answers which indicated suitability).

The first two tests were basically IQ tests, I've done several of them.

    I got into BAND 1

    Verbal Reasoning
Your Score 6757 Qualifying Score 3829

    Discovering Rules - Abstract Reasoning
Your Score 5862 Qualifying Score 3831

    Online Questionnaire Garda Trainee
Your Score 5391 Qualifying Score 3695

The maximum score available on each test is 8000.

    Your overall place is: 1140

I did it on a whim, about an hour and a half before my application window closed and with absolutely no preparation. I think that there is no way you can really prepare for these tests. I'll do the next set of tests but not really interested in a career in AGS! Just want to see how far I get really!

Why did you enter if you don't want a career in ags, now someone who really wanted to join loses out cause of you.

So you're taking a place that someone genuinely interested could use? Good stuff

Spare a though for those who shed tears today at those results, I'm thru myself but I feel sorry for genuine candidates that have foolishly now it seems, volunteered their time for nothing. The reserve has been seriously undermined and diminished today after what has happened and the standard of applicant will drop even further

That's not the case at all.

The qualifying score is so dramatically low that anyone with even a shadow of capability will be considered right up to interview. Even with 10,000 speculative applications.

If he does drop out, and not take a place, the next most qualified candidate will be offered it. No-one misses out. The person placed 5,001st may perceive themselves as missing out to someone who took a speculative test and placed above 5,000, but in reality they're not going to get anywhere near that far down the list even after the plethora of stages to come, including interview.

If you can't achieve 3,600 odd of a score (about 40%) in these tests then you won't be continuing. Just as with almost any other test.
