so lads im changing cars i have a 00 aversis 1.6 (great car by the way), Im gonna go for either a corolla or an auris hopefully i an get the luna spec.

Which is better lads i wouldn't have much knowledge of them. Is there much extras in the newer auris as apposed the corolla?? Also would i be better getting the 1.4 petrol or diesel?

    Neither is amazing tbh.

The auris has way better use of space, but the interior is pretty dire and its just not a great car.
The corolla is very small inside for such a big car on the outside.

I'd have an avensis 1.6 (03-09) over either of them. Won't be any harder on fuel either
1.6 strata has all the spec of a corolla/auris luna but without leather wheel/gearknob. Has VSC and TRC which corolla/auris don't have.

Only 2008 models onwards have this in 1.6. I agree though, the Avensis is a much better car than 07 onwards Corolla or Auris.

The Auris is just vile, and the Corolla isn't much better.

Its a hatchback im looking for tbh i never needed the space in the avensis and id say the hacthback be easier run due to it being lighter. God i think the corolla is a good looking car

Avensis, corolla and auris are all pretty much the same weight.
Avensis is actually 10kg lighter than the auris.

Are you one of the toyota for life people, or are your options open for other similar sized cars?

Don't be fooled by "the best built cars in the world" hype. These(07-13 corolla, auris) don't live up to it. By Toyota's previous standards they are a poor car. They are cheaply built and they are only average in almost every department.

Well if you don't need the space of an Avensis, then buy something, anything other than an Auris. I cannot think of a single worse car in its category. A really poor effort by Toyota, the only reason people want them in Ireland is because they're Toyotas and Toyota know they can sell any old muck and the Irish will lap it up.

A Golf, Astra or Focus is miles better.

Have a look at the Hyundai i30.

I dont like the golfs little things kepp going in them and there not the cheapest to service. What do you think of its predecessor the corolla hatch?

I wouldn't agree with this, speaking from personal experience my father has had a 2007 1.4 Golf since new with zero problems and my mother has had a 2012 diesel Golf since also since new and it has been faultless too.

they were i was looking at golfs 1.9l tdi but even vw garages told me the corollas are the more reliable to the two. Yeah we all have toyotas and over the years they have never had a days trouble with them, old lass has a 132avensis old lad has a hi-lux and and 05 avensis and they replaced toyotas. also there good cars to hold there value.

Golfs are pretty reliable once you avoid the poverty spec non turbo 1.4 petrol, and the 170 PS 1.4 TSI (these are very rare).

PS: the Auris and Corolla are nothing special for reliability, they're not bad but hardly class leading, plus they feel like they're made out of tracing paper inside

If it's reliability you want, you should be buying a petrol engined Mazda 3.

I wouldnt touch the 1.4 golf petrol very soft engine in them

No bother. Get a silver toyota so :)

(Or maybe drive a few cars in that class so you can see how relatively bad the corolla/auris is)

dont buy a 07 anything ,they are only one year shy of the low tax rate.......massive range of bigger, better, higher BHP, cars from 08 onwards.(nobody is buying 07 reg cars now as they will will be worthless in a few years.)

No worse than the saloon. No offence but you've got fairly odd taste in what makes a good looking car imo. The hatch looks fine. Barely distinguishable if you ask me. It's not like anyone's gonna be doing a double-take on seeing any of the cars you've mentioned.
That said, whatever floats your boat my man.

Its a pity that cos I think the Corolla is a quare good-looking car. Better looking than the Avensis IMO

When you say Corolla, do you mean the 07 onwards saloon or the older hatch (that the Auris replaced?)

Why not? You do realize that Hyundai are not the bargain basement buckets of sh1te they once were, long gone are those days. These days they make decent cars and the a i30 is a decent car. It is imo a better car than a corolla/auris.

With newer Toyotas all your buying is a name, Hype based on past reputation that's not truly reflective of the quality, (or should I say lack of) of the cars they are churning out these days.
