Its a sad day when a leak from an unidentified source is accepted before the word of the Taoiseach.

Because what he says should be considered gospel?

He already has a great track record of sticking to his word though, doesn't he...!?

Of course they have motive to do this, as many have already highlighted in this thread, this could have been leaked in an attempt to undermine the GOSC. Which it seems Callinan and senior AGS seem to be encouraging and attempting to do at the moment...

I think it is fair that the GOSC (may) have considered them as potential culprits. After all, they essentially 'police' the police (AGS), why would they not consider them?? It would be foolish for them not to consider AGS.

I accept that they are innocent until proven guilty, and I'd like to think/hope they are not involved. But plainly ruling them out is silly IMO. We just don't know.

You have been pro AGS throughout this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if you have some sort of affiliation with them tbh..
    .?

I have nothing to do with them at all BUT I just do not accept the first thing thrown at me and always look at other sides of the story. I think I have been fair as innocent until proven guilty is a rule of society. I have also stated on here several times that the Garda Commissioner should be picked independently and not a political appointment.

By the way I was accused of being a nurse, e.s.b. worker, aer lingus employee, politician, teacher, truck driver etc etc on these threads in the last year.

    Bias is a two-way street.
There are very few un-biased posts on these threads.

Well, it was predicted that this would all be brushed under the carpet and hey ho..... off they go.....

Considering the lie he kept repeating yesterday and earlier today, about how the GSOC were legally obliged to report it to Shatter, you'd forgive people for being sceptical about what he says now.

I'd be sceptical myself until all of the details are out there; politicians do like to spin things one way or another
But I'd still put more store in the word of a named individual than an unidentified source. I'm just balancing the probabilities, while keeping a reasonably open mind.

Anyway, this story has gone full CT now and some people are going to build all kinds of fantastic narratives onto it to explain any facts that do emerge, so long as they can keep intact the central 'truth' - that AGS were bugging the GSOC.

    He's lying imo
I think il take the word of international counter surveillance in relation to this as opposed to enda Kenny
easy answer to this - release the report hold public enquiry (with said team behind curtains if necessary)
why is the government so keen for this to disappear??
this is an unbelievably big story...so either enda Kenny is lying or the gsoc & the uk company are lying

surly the issue should be-getting to who ever planted this and what they had to gain from it???
I wonder who it could be??

it would be an even sadder day if the word of Taoiseach and gaurds were accepted as gospel with out even questioning

Specifically what are the inconsistencies between what Kenny has said and what GSOC themselves have said?

The UK company have only said that they did some work - nothing more. So they're not at odds with anyone.

Agreed. Lets not be doing that.

RTE showed its true colours by putting the leader of the odious opposition on for a full 5 minutes!

well respected journalist has come out said he has read report and it apparently says bugging has taken place
easiest way to end this-release the report:confused::confused:

gsoc report was written by the government to playdown story IMO

a supposedly independat office that's another story though:rolleyes:...

It is unfortunate that there is a simultaneous thread ongoing here by potential garda recruits, where they have several pages of posts about what 'by the 12th of February' means. Good God is all I can think of saying!

In fairness, the 'odious opposition' are the only the only ones who didn't attempt to point the finger at the GOSC for the whole situation.

Obivously, he/they (FF) have their own agenda. But sure Dobson kept deflecting his comments anyway...

The first identified issue arose from a wi-fi device, the property of GSOC acquired in 2007/2008 located in its Boardroom, which was found to have connected to an external wi-fi network. Access to this device was protected by a password, and in the absence of this password any connection should not have been possible. In any event, GSOC does not operate a wi-fi network, and had never therefore activated this device (and does not even know what the password is), but the fact of the connection was a concern. How this occurred is unknown and there is no suggestion by GSOC that it resulted in any information being accessed. I am also advised that the wi-fi device was unable to communicate with any of GSOC’s databases or electronic systems and that the boardroom is not generally used for meetings.

The second potential issue related to the conference call telephone in the Chairman’s office which was subject to a number of tests. One of the tests involved sending an audio signal down the telephone line. Immediately after this transmission, the conference phone line rang. GSOC conducted a number of checks to establish the source of this telephone call, but was unable to do so. Further checks revealed no additional anomalies or matters of concern. There is no evidence of which I am aware from my meeting with the Chairman of GSOC of any phone call made or received being compromised.

The third issue related to the security firm reporting the detection of an unexpected UK 3G network in the area in the locality of the GSOC offices which suggested that UK phones registered to that network making calls would be vulnerable to interception. Importantly, I am advised that neither the Chairman nor any other member of GSOC or its employees use UK-registered mobile phones, so that the presence of any such device in the locality would not seem to have posed a threat to the integrity of GSOC’s communications systems. There appears to be no evidence that what was detected had any direct relevance to GSOC.

    - Alan Shatter

Yes. We should have unchallenged speeches from our Great Leader broadcast between the hours of 6.00 a.m. and 12 midnight so that we cannot doubt his brilliance.

    This whole thing absolutely stinks.

I have completely lost trust in the Gardaí and government to the point that I am becoming an anarchist. And they have made sure that nobody will trust the ombudsman office anymore.

The way Garda representative groups are reacting to this is absolutely absurd.

Skeptism, and a certain degree of healthy distrust are attributes that every watchdog should be showing. And government ministers or rep groups shouldn't be demanding explanations so aggressively, or be calling for resignations when a watchdog dares to demonstrate such attributes.

Well said. This serves as a reminder for us all of the sort of environment we're governed in. It's frightening. Surely by the reaction this is only the tip of the iceberg.

So if the well paid Ombudsman make a **** up they are exempt from criticism and unaccountable to the Dail?
