It's not about the source is it? The government hasn't denied it. GSOC hasn't denied it. The company admitted they did work.

    Wise up.

It is very much about the source if you're going to categorise the information coming from the source as 'highly credible'.

You're assuming Phoebas, that the 'highly credible source' is the company who carried out the work? I didn't get that from the article...... The 'source' could be anyone!

Maybe it was yesterday evening, but after all that's happened today, no.

I doubt that the company is the source. I'd be amazed if a security company leaked this information; who'd ever hire them again?

The source is more likely to be someone in GSOC.

It would seem so to me too but some posters are going to come on here to provide a reasoned and evidence supported argument as to why/how GSOC broke the law...

... And then I woke up

You see now that GSOC has directly confirmed this, the bugging.

And someone within GSOC is not a 'highly credible source'?

From the GSOC statement, we'll never know anything about this.

I might be behind the curve on this one, but all I've seen today is some secondary reporting of the same story, various parties calling for clarification and the Minister looking for an explanation from the GSOC.

Sometimes Ireland makes a country like Iran look like Disney world.
Ah here... For starters, look at us being able to criticise it away not a bother.

Gsoc statement on rte news "we found no evidence of garda wrongdoing". So can all of those people who were jumping to conclusions that it was Gardai bugging Gsoc wind their necks back in please.

Unless you're a journalist in a national newspaper.

If shatter accepted that explanation then he should resign, another whitewash! Everyone is tarnished and no one is to blame! This is not going to go away and if journalists are any good in this country ( they aren't) they need to get to the bottom of this!

We don't even know if it was from someone in the GSOC.
If it was, maybe it was a senior official who wasn't willing to be part of a cover up or maybe it was some mid level clerk who misunderstood the information.

We just don't know - that's why I couldn't say at this point that it's 'highly credible'

I think it's clear that they don't know who is responsible for it. Head of Gsoc should resign for failing to report this to the Government.
They think theyre a law onto themselves.

They found no evidence of wrong doing in any group. They haven't a clue who is responsible, so it's still just as likely to be Gardai / the DoJ as much as anyone else.

Exactly. It's anyone and everyone getting tarnished with this, despite any credible evidence. It could be insiders in GSOC for all we know.

    Heads should roll over this.

Could be anyone. Journalists/British M15/Garda/Army/disgruntled gsoc employee.

But let's not let the facts get in the way of a good witch hunt, and blame it on the gardai

The very strange thing about this story is that this apparently happened last year, the GSOC investigation has been inconclusive and it seems that they haven't seen fit either to pursue it further or to report it to the Minister.

Its like they were just going to let it slide - perhaps this is what promoted the leaker.
