Enda saying on 6-1 news that GSOC are breaking the law in not reporting.

    Clearly untrue that.

I'd say shatter tore strips off the head of GSOC, I expect a resignation within the hour! Any one give me 10/1

You will get something within the hour but I very much doubt it will be a resignation.

It should be Shatter that resigns. Doesn't say much about him that the Garda Ombudsman trusts him so little that they wouldn't report it to him.

Very true, there's an implication there alright!

I'd say they realise that myself.
Now who would have a reason to bug the GSOC offices?

They investigate complaints against individual Garda members but I can't imagine a Garda being in a position to bug their office.
I wonder if Government ministers would be concerned about being named in the Penalty Points investigation though?

We don't do resignations in Ireland but seeing as he's English he might apply their standards and resign!

Does Enda remind anyone else of someone who is apparently always 'the last to know' lol.
Then he has his usual concerned head, nodding, telling us all that this will be dealt with.
He's like a mother who has lost all control of her 15 children but has the best of intentions of drawing them all into line....... Or so she tells the social worker anyway!

It's no more than I would expect from these people. The next step will be to discredit the security company in some way. It will all be the fault of the GSOC and security company. Muddy the waters and attack the messenger. Anythng to deflect attention away from what's really going on. The GSOC are making a statement shortly. That should be interesting.

Rte reporting that Shatter wants to meet the gsoc- wants to know why he and the Gardai weren't informed, why they checked for bugs......classic case of looking to blame the victim

The man is a dense arrogant fool. Its pretty obvious that trust between him and the gsoc is gone. By his actions he's shown he has little interest on accountability within the guards. We need a new minister, and I say that as someone who broadly supports this government

And now Enda has joined in the bluster. I find it very suspect that it appears from the government response it is trying to lay some kind of blame on the gsoc rather than asking who carried out this bugging.
Could it be they are well aware who carried it out, and it`s very close to home!

There ya go. Reminds me of the beef tribunal years ago. After all the revelations, the only person to be prosecuted was the reporter who uncovered it.

The govt are already accusing the company of using equipment in Ireland without a licence.

He's a goner and fitzy from bosco as well!

    This is an absurd position.

They we're recommended by the British Independent Police Commission. And they're staffed by security experts, by all accounts.

You'll have to better than, "sure what do I know?" to convince any one to take your opinion on their credibility, seriously.

I'm not at all questioning the credibility of the security firm.
I'm questioning the credibility of an unidentified source.

The security company haven't said anything much more than confirm that they did some work, but they haven't told us what they found.

Seriously? Have they actually been critical about the company that found the breaches?

If that's true it speaks volumes

The head of GSOC should resign immediately if the office was bugged and it was not reported to Government! His position is not tenable.

The finger is pointing at AGS and if that is correct and proved then it's a disgrace and the minister and commissioner should resign.

GSOC seem to have its own moles given all the leaks to the media in recent times!

    Why?

You don't know the circumstances behind the situation yet,so calling for resignations is a bit premature

What now? That Enda did not say that or GSOC did not break the law?

    They didn't break the law.

    Here's the part he cited:

    (5) The Ombudsman Commission may make any other reports that it considers appropriate for drawing to the Minister’s attention matters that have come to its notice and that, in its opinion, should, because of their gravity or other exceptional circumstances, be the subject of a special report to the Minister.

What have the Garda Ombudsman said about their trust in Shatter?
The reason they gave for not reporting the bugging to the Gardai or to the Minister was along the lines that they couldn't determine who was behind the bugging; they didn't say anything about not trusting the Minister.

They are legally bound to report to the government and minister and they did not, surely they could have met him and briefed him at the very least, they seem to be a law unto themselve!

You would assume (maybe not?) that Kenny would have consulted the AG before offering this opinion?

Anyway, this is secondary. Whodunit is the big question. At this stage, my money is on the 4th estate.

I just wouldn't categorise an unidentified source as 'highly credible'. Would you?

They're not. Not need to keep repeating a lie. It doesn't make it more true.

It's not about the source is it? The government hasn't denied it. GSOC hasn't denied it. The company admitted they did work.

    Wise up.
