My 04 lancer comfort has developed a knocking noise from engine. the knocking gets faster as i eccelerate and has now kept knocking when engine is idle .Can anyone tell me what might be causing this as its only done 62.5k miles and has been serviced regularly

i assume you checked oil level,is there any electrical malfunction that would cause misfire and unburned petrol to explode you need an electrics checkover to rule that out, or valves,it seems an extremely low mileage for that problem ,also low mileage for that year and I wonder does mileage service intervals apply ,ie some say oil should be changed twice a year regardless of mileage ( to prevent oil breakdown due to moisture absorbtion) i would change oil and filter immediately to rule out oil starvation by a choked filter, I dont know enough about that engine to tell you where to check oil flow pressure, but its unlikely to be one of the following, but i would remove rocker cover to check oil flow to head and rocker shaft, had that experience with one engine.another one was skirt cracked off piston, another was shell bearing collapsed. all involved stripping engine, piston skirt off was least serious

Check the basics first. Is there oil in the engine?
