As for you King Kupus we're not bitching about the stadium... Most of us enjoy the fact we live beside it. But putting a community into virtual lockdown for a week is just not on.

the GAA and croke park have entered into agreements with the residents and have backed down on them all.

We know events have to take place... But this is to the extreme. It's been 4 years since there was a complaint made about an event and that was U2 dismantling there stage... 48 hr's of continuous work during a working week... and oh yeah... they had to stop work. Guess what the residents won that one.

I prefer Emperor ;) now from somebody that lives there what would you be happy with for these concerts to continue, would you have been happy with 3 concerts one week and 2 the next, or just the 3 original concerts?

I would be happy with the original agreement which was 3 concerts per year.
    Same as the Aviva

Well that could certainly work. Along with better crowd and traffic management in the areas surrounding the venue.

3 I think is enough especially when you take into consideration the 3 1 Direction concerts and the 35 odd events days this year... Most of which are weekends which we mainly have no problems with...

It seems like every post of hers is carefully worded in such a way to maximise thanks.

    Quite pathetic really.

NOw you all realise that this series of concerts is going to pump a lot of badly needed money into dublins coffers. Food, drink, day entertainment, lodging, shops, etc...

I was never at a concert in croke park but i was at plenty of games day games and night and they all seem effeciently run and people disperse quickly with minimum fuss. Is this the case from a local point of view?

Is that really a good reason to add extra concerts though? Just because there's money to be made doesn't make it right.

Well if you read the thread, it quite clearly is not the case.

Imagine 5 All-Ireland finals in a row with each one ending at 11pm. Plus there seem to be a lot more drunk people
around for the gigs than the matches.

Ok would YOU as a local be happy with a cash settlement or maybe a donation to the community. Something like a playground ( what does the community need) or do you want to be personally compensated.

Remember these are two different things.
One makes you look greedy the other makes you look like a good community.
I am not saying you are greedy btw...

What are you the locals happy with?

You need to get your arguments for and against in order, so they can be reviewed. I have no problem with you getting something from the organisers. They are making money, the city of dublin is making money and you should be compensated so maybe my 1st analogy was off the mark. Your families were there first.
my problem is when 1 or two awkward people hold out, looking to get the extra bit, which makes the community look greedy in everybody elses eyes. The worse part is these awkward people are in every single community whether its rural, village, town or city, and it bugs the sh1t out of me.

The community needs not to have 5 nights back to back of Garth Brooks

If the residents made an agreement then why are they not taking the GAA to court?
because an agreement with residents means nothing, its the stipulation on the planning is what matters along with what DCC and the licencing authority say and allow
Why has the local authority not told GAA/Promotion company that some of the concerts can't be held?
they may do yet, but all the planning stipulation says is that no more then 3 non-sporting events can be held in a year without applying for an events licence, so if more then 3 concerts are planned for example an events licence has to be applied for, residents can object to the events licence but ultimately the relevant authorities have the say on what happens.

which no doubt cost the relevant contractors and others money and loss of earnings, the residents probably won out of sympathy or just to shut them up

I hope the residents get the concerts banned and that no one gets to see the red neck king.

I don't buy the argument that the residents knew this and that. How often are concerts played at Croke Park, and how long has that actually been going on? "The Stadium has been there longer" has the electric guitar been around longer?

Really, you actually think after five nights listening to redneck noise that they would actually want to go and see it?? I used to live very close to Croke park, the behavior of the bog ball fans down for the day was truly disgusting.

As already mentioned, a lot of the residents are elderly, I hope some local TDs arrange to have at least two of the nights cancelled.

Ok theres one day setting up, jsut like any other concert. there is one day dismantling, just like any other concert.
It looks to me the problem is the five concerts in between...... sorry Im trying to break this down as simple as possible.

People wandering off and getting sick from drink seems to be a big problem. well how about cordoning off a lot of the side streets for residents ONLY. If the organisers promise to get people out quicker would you be happy with that.

If yes, in that case the organisers would need to employ loads more security so you need to tell them this in advance so they can do this.

    because it pays the bills

Not everybody has that simplistic view of things.

    because it pays the bills

So, slightly more extremely, what if I were to say if we wrecked end of the roads house but got 20 million quid out of it?

    Oh

Well Seamus at the front of the thread said it, the stadiums around longer than them,

But, keep in mind even if concerts have been in Croke Park for a century wouldn't have they been more unplugged/acoustic things whereas these days you can quite rightly have setups where the stage has over a thousand sqft of amplifiers nevermind all the noiseless lasers and smoke and ****. You can probably here Watcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy clear from a mile away, past a reasonable hour, too.

Yes the awful noise at the stadium, the blinding effects of check shirts and the smell of silage for 5 nights, no thanks.

The house I lived in was a Victorian house so around for quite a while ;)
The stadium came after the house I lived in.

I had the house literally shake from the vibration of gigs, the concerts are really only around since Neil diamond in the lateish 80's(open to correction :))so big time frame difference.
The sound checks are head wrecking as well....."One two, one two, Can you hear that, whats that fu*king humming sound, hey you, yeh you gobsh*te, check that fu*king thing over there!!!"
And that goes on all day long :(

What concerns me more than 5 (and an extra few days for setup/teardown ) days of traffic disruption, noise, crowds, litter, etc is the fact that the 2 biggest selling music events in Ireland this year are Garth brooks and one direction. What does that say about us as a society? I saw the Dubliners on Rte earlier, what kinda crowd would they draw now, few hundred, maybe a thousand?
