Yes it would , everything seemed to be fine until they decided to push two extra nights on them . So I would say it's the best compromise .
theirs a large demand for these concerts hence their being put on subject to licence, people will come from far and wide bringing millions into the economy, therefore this should get priority over a few moaning whining ambulance chasers

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Just come across this thread, but I admit I haven't read it all, owing to it's length. That said, I would like to contribute, so I would like to apologise in advance if the point has been made already.

I believe that the residents are not totally out of line in expressing their displeasure at this. However, the real point I would like to make is that there was probably some scope here to spread these concerts out a little more evenly throughout the country. If GB is going to be here for 5 nights, how feckin' miserable would he have to be not to travel to, say, Cork and/or Galway and throw on a show or two outside of the capital? I mean, it's not like he'd be traveling overnight, or anything. All the other major urban centres in our country are now less then 3 hours away from Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,214 ✭✭✭✭JRant

They are travelling because it's a day in croke park because a lot of their bad gaa teams won't get a game there this year .

To be honest it really doesn't matter whether its a game of GAA or a concert. It's a fantastic venue and deserves to be used. However 5 nights on the bounce is really extracting the Michael.

I think you'll find "Dublin Knackers" as you so eloquently put it, would not be caught dead at a Garth Brooks concert.
Knackers they may be, but they still have taste, and more importantly ears ;)

I didn't say the went to the toilet in my garden, but on my doorstep(I didn't have a front garden as lots of the houses around there don't)
The residents live there ALL year long, bit of stretch to think that they become crazed during a concert and leave the comfort of their own home to literally sh!t on their own or neighbours doorstep, wouldn't you think?

Its the hoards that have been drinking pints of dubious lager in the venue, then get the urge to go to the toilet as leaving the venue.
    Ooops, guess what?
80.000 other people want to go to the toilet at the same time as you.
In their drunken stupor they will go to the toilet ANYWHERE.

    As you say....
"Its any wonder Dublin is a proper hole with the people in it"

It's charming to see your attitude towards the place where you will get to see your beloved Mr Brooks.
It also speaks volumes of how people like you will treat the city when they visit and more importantly the respect you have for the people who live there.

    Clearly we're all the same.

I'll bring my spuds and fling it at your windows.

    Complain all you want then.

This problem is solvable though, with proper security, instant towing of any vehicles parked illegally or causing obstructions, park and ride facilities etc. if these were in place perhaps the residents would be more accommodating. I think they want a solution is all. Could a % of takings not be put by to alleviate the problems. Surely those that are FOR all the concerts can understand the residents concerns. They're not just moaning for the fun of it. Having a good time should never be at someone else's expense. It spreads much further than the roads immediately surrounding the stadium. I live about 3/4 of a mile from Croker and even my road is full of cars badly parked on match/concert days. We have to park strategically on those days and arrange our day around being able to use our vehicles. It's not the end of the world admittedly but it would be huge concern for a full week with work commitments etc.

Again, this is the attitude that the residents have to deal with folks.
No respect for property or people.

Also, clearly we most certainly are NOT all the same.
I would never threaten to damage someone's property.
    Dublin knackers, eh?

I hear they are forecasting a freak storm for that night!
The Gods are not pleased and will punish the masses with mighty hail and furious thunder, and then there will be rain.
Rain the likes that no-one has ever seen before.
The Gods are not pleased with so many worshipping a bloated goobie and shall wash away the uncleanliness that these idolaters bring with them.

The judge probably gets the same moneys every time.

Not a hope, they'll be cancelled.

It doesnt matter where the gigs are held, or who plays, there are always moaners. Any excuse will be used. Shure its probably the neighbours sh!tting in each others gardens. Its not the first time Bertie shat on people.

    FYP

Love the way people are judging everyone going to the concert for liking Garth Brooks. You all sounds like gob****es. I don't like him either but I don't see that as a reason to look down on people who do.

Not judging all the people attending, unlike some other posters who call Dublin a "hole" and Dublin people "knackers"

    Also, the looking down thing?
I look down on anyone who threaten to or enjoys the idea of peoples homes being vandalised, Garth Brooks fans or not.

I must say I skipped the middle of the thread so I only got the people wanting all Garth Brooks fans to jump off a cliff. I agree the other side are just as bad.

    Ya wha?

It was a rhetorical question. I don't want anyone jumping off a cliff, Brooks fan or not.

The GAA as an organisation are great for the whole country. The internal company charged with managing Croke Park are less than ideal for neighbours to deal with.

Imagine that, getting to enjoy a bit of piece and quiet, the neck of them.

Yeah, U2 played there back in 1990 or so, the smell of piss in it!

I disagree, the other side are no where near as bad.
These are real people, lots of elderly people too, who have to deal with the attitudes and actions of certain concert/GAA attendees as have been highlighted in this thread.
If I went to YOUR or THEIR home and did what has happened to countless people who live beside Croker, it wouldn't be taken lightly.
But because people have the temerity to expect the same rights and respect as every other householder in the country, but happen to live beside a large venue we are moaners.
But hey, they dont care about that, right?

I'm confused by your first line? I said the ones arguing against you are just as bad yet you say they are no where near as bad?

Personally where I live there is music blaring for a week solid every year when we have the town festival on. I don't really take any notice of that because it's my choice to live here. Be different if it was every week.

So not sure what point exactly you are arguing with me now so I'm done here I guess.

First one was '85 I think. That would have been the old Croker. What a place that was, rough as a jockeys preverbials.
