The area has quite a lot of alleyways with loads of bins blocking the sides etc.

Loads of CCTV cameras too so hopefully they'll have no problem catching anyone that may have been involved.

There's no guarantee that it was anything like that. If he was drunk he may have just sat down somewhere quiet, fallen asleep and died of hypothermia. Happened a lad here a few years ago. Was on his way home from the pub, fell asleep in a field and never woke up.

I was once came across a young fella fast asleep beside a wall in a housing estate in South Dublin at four AM. Woke him up, and he went off on his way mumbling incoherently.

I really don't want to do a mods job, but seriously. Can we not speculate like?

    So very sad.

I was mugged late night on a busy street in Mayfair about two years ago. I called the police and having asked where I was they started looking immediately at footage. About 3 mins later a squad car pulled up and told me two get in. I identified the culprits as the police had tracked them and I was driven back to my hotel. The CCTV is incredible in central London and I found the police incredibly professional and practical.

I sincerely hope this body is that of some degenerate junkie rather than this dear son, brother and friend.

Judgmental much. You don't think that some degenerate junkie is someone's dear son, brother or friend? :(

RIP to whoever it proves to be.

Speaking to the Irish Independent earlier today, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Although formal identification has yet to take place, we believe the body found last night close to Leicester Square is that of missing Irish man Patrick Halpin.
    "It is being as non-suspicious."

    Very sad news.

Someone else assumed there was violence involved, I was just pointing out that that doesn't have to be the case at all.

The poor family- in the last 24 hours this teenager has gone from being missing, to being found alive and safe, to being confirmed dead. I can only imagine the torment they've been through.

It doesn't matter, you were still suggesting something else could have happened. That's speculation. Imagine a family member of yours died and you saw people speculating the circumstances surrounding his death on boards?

RIP Patrick. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I'm a DCU student myself and I'm really not looking forward to going back one Monday. Going to be an awful atmosphere. I can't imagine what the Drama Society are going through.
