NCT test by non owner

    I just wonder is it required that the owner of the car can only bring car for the NCT test or spouse who is secondary driver can also go?

    Anyone can bring the car in for test provided they have photo ID and the logbook.

    As above and they only accept Passport or Driving licence.

    Exactly.
    If you don't have driving licence or passport, then you are not good enough to present a vehicle for a test.
    No other form of photo ID's accepted.

    Since its an offence to drive without your drivers licence why do they allow the passport? You should get a fail to produce your licence if you produce your passport as id.

    It might be an offence to drive without licence, but...
    Firstly - driving is not equal to presenting car for a test.
    Secondly - Irish system of issuing licences, forces people to drive without their licence for several weeks or months.

    Examples.
    1. My test is booked for Friday for 11am. I work from 7a-3p, so I can't present a car myself. So I drive a car to NCT test centre before 7, park it there, and I ask my mother to come over at 11am and present a car for a test. She doesn't drive so she doesn't have a licence.

    2. I just put my licence for renewal. I had to submit my licence with application, so I don't hold the document. Waiting time for new document is several months. During this time I need to present my car for NCT, but I can't as I don't have a document.


    Example 1 is just invented, but surely can happen.
    Example 2 is what happened to me some time ago. I didn't have passport as I left it at my family home thousands of kilometres away. I wasn't able to NCT my own car.
