You'd just have loads of lads knocking it over from miles out. It'd be incredibly boring.

that is completely irrelevant to the post you quoted

but do you not think thats whats so great about it. its ours, its our culture. its Irish, and lets face it the GAA is a great organisation... just paid for their massive stadium. far superior to Soccer and Rugby

With the aid of €114m of government funding over the years.

And far superior in your opinion.

    it was actually...
Grow up, you said in your opening post,
Would you agree or what sport is better?

I took the first option and disagreed.

I enjoy hurling but like everything else, you have to have a variety.

I watched the Super Bowl live end to end this year and I thought it was class, it has renewed my interest in the NFL in a big way!

I hate threads wherein people invite discussion and then get annoyed at people who disagree with them.

Now I think that hurling is great, but you can't say that one sport is definitively the best in the world. It's a matter of opinion.

I really don't get how you can back up your argument that it's the best by saying it is because it's "our sport." Don't you see the contradiction in that? In claiming that one sport is the best in the world because it's played in one country, sidestepping the issue of whether it's actually good or not, instead staking its objective quality on abstract, subjective notions like patriotism?
By your logic, isn't an American equally and paradoxically entitled to claim that baseball is the best sport in the world because it's "their sport?"
How's that different from your claim that hurling is the best because it's "ours?"

fair point but i think the baseball finals is called the world series but only played in USA, kinda bigging it up to be fair...

Hurling is a decent watch in fairness, however the greatest game ever? I don't think so.
If it's such a great sport, you have to question why it never took off anywhere else, not to mention why the All-Ireland Finals are pretty much the only two games of the whole GAA calendar which sell out.

I also don't think the skill level involved is any higher than other sports.

Another reason I reckon soccer is the greatest game ever is that anybody can beat anyone.
Upsets are very, very rare in GAA. However in soccer there's massive upsets almost every season. Wigan winning last seasons FA Cup, Greece winning the European Championships etc. You don't get that kind of excitement in other sports.

I dont think people realise this, but soccer at the pro level is incredibly skilled.

You can be guaranteed that if you put any Premier League player into an amateur league they would absolutley tear it apart.

Their first touch and ability to do things under pressure and with little or no time for thinking is amazing.

Soccer is the most skilled sport, and the best sport in the world. The standards are amazing as it picks the best from probably a billion players.

How can you claim hurling is better when there isnt even a million that play it? It'll never reach world class standards.

As much as the gaa boys may hate it nothing has catched the imagination of the world like soccer. You may think its easy to play and that they are just overpaid lil girls falling around the place. But the level and ability top soccer players are at is unbelievable.

The one thing that stands soccer out from gaelic football hurling and rugby is the freedom of expression with the ball as long as you dont handball it there is endless skills and possibilities that is the magic in it with gaelic and rugby its less free.

I dont begrudge any sport but irish people think gaelic football and hurling are miles ahead of other sports its almost an ignorance to other sports and its a shame really.

haha u pulling the p1ss? the reason its not world wide is because its not marketed in that way... less than a 100 years and you'd have been shot by the british army for going around holding a hurl...
Soccer is soo bad, boring and not that skilfull at all... its sold better thats all.

You could use the McDonalds analogy here, it is the most popular fast food chain in the world, it doesnt mean it has the best food
