How noble of you, denying rights to others for the sake of the species.

I think we can see by the few hysterical replies to my first comment on this subject how there can never be a rational 'debate' in this country.

Liberals want to shut down the debate and shout and scream at anyone who chooses to disagree with them.

Astonishing view point. It's been show time and time again that the only people trying to shut down debate and stamp and scream when things don't go their way are the Iona crowd. You're being wilfully obtuse to not acknowledge this. Who went crying to their solicitors as soon as they got a taste of their own medicine. After years of sickening abuse, put downs and racks of "opinion" pieces defaming LGBTQ people in this country they were called out for what they were doing and didn't like it. Well tough. It's time they were answered back to.

A drag artist went on a cheap TV chat show and mouthed off.

The people he mouthed off against reacted.

The state broadcaster's top dog lawyers decided to offer money in order to avoid a court case.

Am I not allowed to make that point?

Do you want to shout me down on that too?

The IONA institute are as entitled to hold their views as much as any PC brigade loving liberal or group of liberals.

The last time I looked, this wasn't north Korea.

Yup- they do and I have the right to call them what they are, which is a bunch of homophobic dickwads.

That's a pretty poor relation of what happened. Have you watched the segment of the show at all?

Why did RTE's lawyers offer money to avoid a case?

Who is shouting you down? You're being asked to clarify the reasoning behind your view and you can't obviously so you're complaining that you're being shouted down instead. Weak. Just like Waters, O'Brien, Quinn and the rest of that shower. Secondary school arguing tactics.

You do understand the meaning of the word 'homophobic' don't you?

Oh you're quite allowed and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's a very silly point, though. Hysterical even. Lacking in even basic logic or reason. And others have the right to make that point.

But you're perfectly entitled to make it as often as you like. Please, make it again. Maybe someone else will tell you it's a terrible point, as is their right. Isn't freedom of speech a wonderful thing?

Because being involved in a court case would cost more.

Who's shouting here? I only see reasoned debate from the SSM side.

Unless they are infertile they can have a biological child. But that is a poor point of reason, what about heterosexual couples who can't have children? What about older couples who are past fertile age? Do we annull their marriages?

Actually this argument has been addressed and dealt with 3 or 4 times over the last 100 odd pages of this thread. Obviously you haven't been keeping up.

Wonderful logic, let's also prevent infertile people and the elderly from marrying.

Because they are spineless cowards who subscribe to the "careful now" school of alter boy style fealty to the Catholic establishment.

A phobia is a fear OR aversion to someone or something. It is not the fear, but the aversion aspect of this particular phobia we are all discussing. In that respect, Iona, Waters and O'Brien are homophobic.

This is something that homophobes say when they don't want to acknowledge their bigotry. Homophobia is not a fear of homosexuals, it is an irrational hatred or dislike of homosexuals. Everyone knows this and nitpicking at terminology does not make you appear intelligent.

There are no guarantees in any courtroom. It's cheaper to pay off Water and Iona instead of paying out legal fees while the case is in progress.

The Iona Institute are shutting down debate by screaming libel because someone dared to publicly state a fact. I hardly think they are liberal!

There does not need to be a 'debate'. The opinions of those who oppose LBGT marriage are completely irrelevant. LBGT marriage is nobody's business except LBGT people who wish to get married. Nobody else is being asked to marry anyone of the same gender, therefore it does not affect anyone in opposition and they have no reason to protest it.

Funny how you nitpick at the definition of homophobia while completely misusing the word hysterics in order to shut people up.

But they do fear. They fear for society. And they fear for marriage. And they fear for little babies. All because of the gays. Those fear inspiring gays.

Homophobes in every definition of the word.

    I have neither.

I have gay friends and some of my other friends have gay kids.

They're sick of the hysterical reaction too.

The same way you nitpicked my answer to another poster.
