    Hi all,

Just looking for opinions on this car http://www.johnkellycarsales.ie/viewanad.php?ad_id=1019533&r=

Is it well priced and what should I look out for? I posted yesterday about a focus titanium but the price was a little too high!

    Thanks!

Looks well, price is right, dealer apparently is sound.

Looks boggo spec, most at least have the rear spoiler.

Whats the story with the one you are selling Colm (in case it may be of interest to the OP)

Think I like it minus the spoiler.Car looks good for what it is

Is there a higher spec lancer available?

Its an 09, maroon, with the full fake evo factory kit, 122000km on it. Its on donedeal if the OP is interested. The only one with those extras on sale so will be easy to spot. OP may be happier with garage sale (trade in/finance etc)

I wouldn't buy a lancer without those extras personally. They make the car.

I'd have to agree although I can certainly see how they would split opinion. Out of interest what is the 1.5l like to drive?

It's not exactly fast. Very on par with a mk1 Focus 1.6 power wise. Grand for what it is.
Ride is very comfy on standard 16s, standard springs a bit squishy.
18s and the lowered suspension sharpens it up but doesn't make it uncomfortable.
Gear change is a bit "meh", somewhere between an almera and a corolla (a bit light and not notchy enough for my liking)
Engine is quiet enough and very smooth.

Agreed that the kit would divide opinion. Certainly not many would pay the extra for it new based on how few did.

I had considered selling the civic and taking the lancer but its just not powerful enough in comparison, there's no cruise control and I love the interior in the civic.

I agree with Colm, the body kit and larger wheels really transforms them.

Crazy money on this one though:

Some came with leather interiors too.

Another one here but the mileage is high for it's age:

Those lancers are very cheaply built Imo.

Here we go, they're no 90s corolla. But then - what is?

My Raleigh. It fails to break.

I was very close to buying the older model lancia about 10 years ago but was sold by the time I wanted to view at the garage

What's with the attitude? I wasn't comparing them to a "90's corolla". There are plenty of other cars of the same age that are better quality IMO.

The interior not plush I think word is but they of high mechanical integrity and last well, I think they very well built and huge value.

Not having a go, but how do you measure quality?

I'm quite a fan of old toyotas for the same reason I like those lancers.

Well don't get me wrong I'm not saying the lancer is a bad car, it's just that they don't age very well IMO. The paint isn't very durable on them and they dent easily etc and the interior is a bit on the cheap side as well.

Tbh I'd be opting for something else if I was buying at that end of the market. Even if you were to go japanese , cars such as the Honda civic are far superior in my opinion, although I know you will probably pay a bit more. :)

TBF I always considered the Lancer to be quite a reliable car. They are rare enough on Irish roads. Not sure why? Few dealers?
    The Lancer EVO a rocket.:D

I test drove a DiD one not so long ago. The interior certainly felt cheap but I reckoned the plastics were durable enough. My main bugbear was the seats. I thought they were uncomfortable. I can't say anything was bad about them. Just the usual Japanese build quality and feel. It'll last forever, but do you want it to.

    Hi all,

Just an update on the car - a friend rang the dealer for me today and he was very unhelpful to say the least. I'm not going to look at the car now at all.

Colm - Your Mitsubishi is a lovely car and I would most certainly have a look at it but I'm looking at garages at the minute mainly to compare whether it's worth trading in my own car or not (old Ford).

What would be a fair price for this car? I'm thinking about €11k but not too sure. http://www.motorpark.ie/used-cars/Mitsubishi/Lancer/1.5-INTENSE/39713914312062060/

I bought a 2008 reg lancer in Feb 2011 for 9900 with 40k on the clock in a dealership with a warranty. Using this as a guide I think the price for that 11 reg silver one is very high.

I loved the lancer, solid on the road, bluetooth is very good, folding mirrors great. No complaints about it at all. Sure the interior is uninspiring, but then so is the interior of my current car so meh!

I owned a 2008 model for the last 6 years and found it to be a reliable economical car. It could have done with a 6th gear on the motorway as the rev's tend to rise and has a typical japanese interior but never let me down and it got plenty of use.
