How many Irish banks are still running Windows XP?

Windows XP security updates will cease from 8.4.2014* – ie in just over 2 months’ time.

While the blogosphere has been consumed by the fact that most ATMs in the US are still running on XP, in reality no ATM is or should be connected to the internet (naked). So the XP / ATM issue should be irrelevant in that context.

But how many bank back office computers that have access to the internet for email and/or browsing with the bank’s accounting/transaction processing systems are still using XP? Even systems that have USB ports that enable thumb drives and similar storage media to be connected are in the same category, even if no direct internet connection is involved.

The blackhat hacking community are supposedly holding back on using their latest inventions until 9.4.2014 when XP will be unprotected from the planet-wide jungle of nasty bits.

And any bank that you have entrusted your hard earned cash with who still uses XP is potentially exposing you to this risk.
