PVR : FAT 32 or NTFS ?

My FTA receiver supports both FAT 32 & NTFS.
Using a USB thumb drive for the PVR function, which format is optimum? What are the differences and should I format on the receiver itself or on my laptop?

FAT32 (Win95) is a kuldge of FAT itself a kludge from 1976 CP/M and can't do single files big enough for HD. NTFS (since 1993 and newest version in Win8.1) in theory can do 16 exabyte files and is a professional filesystem with journalling.

So translating that, NTFC is optimum and will prevent my HD movies being split into multiple files. And re “formatting” in the receiver or laptop? Laptop gives me unit allocation size. Same question for my camcorder, I imagine the actual device sets up appropriate file structure however Watty what I imagine doesn't mean best practice !
Also what are the min write speeds for USB thumb HD recording?

By no means an expert here but I think that some receivers split the recordings by default regardless of drive format (presumably to not have to bother coding for the different format types)

That may be the case, but FAT32 is grossly inferior file system to NTFS.
