The Lock In

There's a pub near me that's staying open for the Super Bowl tonight but it's doing it in hush hush way. But a status came up on my Facebook feed of a pub advertising the fact it's staying open and doing free hotdogs, 2for1s, €3 pints etc.

I'm pretty sure this is illegal or is it possible this pub was granted an extension on their opening hours?

Whatever about the rights and wrongs I'm gonna be there cheering on Bradley Manning and the Denver Seahawks.

Nothing illegal at all about cheering Bradley Manning you might just have the NSA and CIA checking you out.

If you're cheering Peyton Manning then that's a different story altogether.

It aint a lock in if its advertised.

A good lock in should involve the regulars, a handful of outsiders, the lights down and curtains closed as to not to draw attention to the fact the pubs open, ashtrays been put up on the counter so you can smoke inside like the old days, lots of people talking ****e not watching american football on the telly and everyone using the nearest jacks even if it is the ladies!
God I miss Irish lock ins :D

One I used to attend is no longer... Shut down a few weeks before Christmas. Good memories. Looking for one around Sandyford now!

Call the authorities OP, selling alcohol after the permitted hours is the most heinous of crimes.

A lot of places are bypassing the laws by charging into the pub and giving tokens for drinks after hours.

It will probably stay open but stop serving after 2.30

Or maybe it has calculated that the potential profits to be made will outweigh the potential fine of being caught.

I'm sorry but what's the crime here? Aren't pubs permitted to open all night long no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭crockholm

Any guard that shuts down a lock-in at a well maintained, trouble free pub is an assh0le and undeserving of any drinking mans support whenever he may need it.

If all pubs and clubs opened from 11am 11pm only, they would be busier, drink would be cheaper, the productivity of the country would increase, there'd be less strain on the Emergency Services, and Ireland would be a much happier place.

No one believes me when I tell them this, but it's true.
