Surely there must be some Map My Ride geeks, I mean specialists, out there who can explain this!!!???

I have submitted the question to MMR but so far only an automated response like on the IT Crowd asking me "did I try turning it off and then on again".

Isn't it perfectly clear from reading their explanation http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/climb_information/

ie. it's a combination of "distance, grade/elevation change, and maximum elevation"

Hi jinkypolly - I don't think you have read my question properly.

The description you refer to says:

"For any climb to be rated it must be at least 500 meters in length with an average grade of 3% or more"

My question refers to the fact that when I create a route there are lots of climbs which are categorised even though their average gradient as recorded on MMR is less than 3% - see the route at this link as an example
