Importing audio from Olympus digital recorder to ipad

I have a friend who wants to import audio from an Olympus digital recorder into an iPad and compress it, then password protect it. This is for data-protection and she wants a solution that allows her to do this easily. Any suggestions?

She'll need to use a computer as a bridge. I don't know of any other way to get audio off those recorders (I used the Olympus ones for years) than USB. iPads don't have USB ports. Password protecting it might be a problem too without using the native Olympus software which I doubt is available for iPad.
