Was at my grandfather's funeral a good few years ago now and I saw this butterfly near his coffin. I was sitting beside my sister and two of my cousins, all of us under 12 at the time and I pointed it out to them. They were able to see it as well. The thing is when I tried to point it out to my mother she said she couldn't see anything. I kind of thought nothing of it but then it started flying up above the coffin, it was extremely bright and colourful but again she couldn't see anything. I was quite freaked out at the time but looking at it now years later I think it's a beautiful experience.
I had a similar experience re. the butterfly. My Dad died some time ago, was expected. He had told me before he died that he was going to a beautiful place and had seen it. He described it as a garden with beautiful flowers of the most vivid colors you could imagine. He died, and all throughout the wake and funeral, this beautiful butterfly kept following me from room to room. It stayed with us throughout all this time, but when my dad was buried, we returned home to find it dead on the windowsill. I have no doubt this was my wonderful dad letting me know he was alive and well elsewhere, But unlike you, thelad95, we could all see it.

Always have a read over this thread when there's a few more stories and these two really stood out for me.

My husband's father died 2 years before we got married and his mum had died many years before that.
We had a spiritual ceremony and as part of the ceremony we lit a candle by a photo of my husband's parents, the photo sat there for the entire ceremony.
From the beginning of the ceremony there were 2 butterflies hovering up at the top of the really high windows in front of where we were seated, as soon as we lit the candle the two butterflies came down and rested on the frame the photo of my husband's parents was in and stayed there for the rest of the ceremony.
The celebrant had also spotted the butterflies and included a little off the cuff bit about how butterflies represented regeneration and new beginnings and how they could also represent those who were not with us, this really touched my husband as it is his belief that the 2 butterflies were his parents dropping in to keep an eye on us.
For months after we got married our house was practically infested with butterflies, we had never had this problem before, but after the wedding we noticed them everywhere. In just one day I caught and released 10 from our bedroom.

26sdrawkcab, that is such a lovely story, and very similar to my own. No doubt that your loved ones are sending you ample proof and verification that all is well with them, and that they are at peace and rest.
The one other strange thing I forgot to mention in my previous post, was that my Dad died in January, and I have never seen a butterfly anywhere at this time of the year, other than the time my Dad passed over.

Another weird dream coincidence from me. Dreamt the other night that I found two dead calves.
Next day I was called out to help with a cow having bother calving, we all thought she had only the one calf but it turned out there were two dead inside her. Again just coincidence and I don't want to read anything into it but it was a bit strange alright.

Many years ago I used to write to a friend who lived about five miles away. We were both single mothers and too skint to afford phones. We'd meet up every few months.

One night I had a dream where she was doing the washing up. A man broke through the kitchen window right in front of the sink and leaped into the room. He then battered her mercilessly and left her lying on the floor with blood coming from her head.

It was so vivid and immediate and horrible that I wrote to her, telling her what I'd seen. I don't know why I wrote - I wouldn't normally bother a person with one of my nightmares.

I saw her about two months afterwards.

She'd got the letter, and being the practical, down to earth Englishwoman she is, she'd written back telling me not to be such a hysterical tart - it was only a dream. The letter was sitting on the kitchen dresser, waiting to be posted.

She was doing the washing up one day when her ex-husband, a violent vicious horror of a man, broke into the house via her kitchen window. He battered her to the ground, breaking her nose and leaving her lying with blood coming from her head.

"Classic possession/exercism" story here via the Daily Mail.

Some of the details (true or false) are pretty scary tbf....

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2547224/EXCLUSIVE-A-portal-hell-Police-chief-priest-examined-possessed-children-haunted-Indiana-home-official-reports-saying-no-hoax.html
The children's eyes bulged, wore evil smiles and deepened when they were taken over by the demons, they said. The youngest boy would sit in a closet and talk to a child no one could see, and on one occasion, he was thrown from the bathroom, Campbell said.

DCS family case manager Valerie Washington also interviewed the family while they were at the hospital and said the youngest boy began growling and his eyes rolled back in his head.

Washington added in her DCS report - which was corroborated by a nurse - that the nine-year-old boy displayed a 'weird grin' and then walked backward up a wall to the ceiling.

He then flipped over his grandmother and landed on his feet, while never letting go of his grandmother's hand.

Washington said in a police report that she believed an 'evil influence' could be affecting the family.
And when asked if the boy had walked up the ceiling in an acrobatic maneuver, she said it was in fact a slow glide that could not have been performed naturally.

I don't understand how thst could possibly mean the thread had been derailed. Perhaps a few posts which just aren't your definition of creepy/ unnerving?

Yep! Dreams that seem to predict events are just coincidental! They shouldn't be creepy or unnerving to someone if you consider them rationally! That being said, Its never happened to me so I guess I cant say how I would actually react! I just prefer content that happened in "real time"!

In fairness I would say the majority of the posts in this thread could be explained rationally... But thats not really the spirit of the thread is it?
Have you really never had an eery feeling about something that can be 100% explained yet still feel unsettled about it?
Or perhaps I'm picking you up wrong snd its simply dreams you have an issue with

I preferred this thread when there was less supernatural stuff :(
Creepy men in vans are scarier than ghosts.

I dunno, despite being a skeptical person, I do enjoy the supernatural type creepy stories where no obvious explanation is forthcoming. I don't know why that is, but it might be because I know that feeling of being genuinely stumped by something you can't rationalise, and it perhaps sheds some light on how a lot of supernatural belief systems came in to being.

And when you de-masked him it was Father O'shea and he cursed you and your smelly Dog as you drove off in your hippy van.

Right. Where do I begin with this?

Ok, in the summer of 2012 I decided to go hitch-hiking across Europe with one of my best friends. We were both dirty, punky broke as fúck fúckers who were up for an adventure and craic despite our lack of funds (what little funds we did have I can assure you were immediately spent on cheap eastern European booze!). Anyways to cut a long story short, we flew in to Finland, dossed there, got a ferry to Estonia, dossed a while there in Tallinn then started hitch hiking to Latvia. We raced through Latvia and got to a small Latvian town on the Lithuanian border. We were tired from a whole day of hitch-hiking and generally being exhausted and worn down so we decided to sit down, smoke a rollie or two, then do our final hitch for the day. While walking towards the spot we were going to seat at, we saw a police car that was occupied by two Latvian policemen who were sitting in the front sit, with their eyes closed, unresponsive and their heads hanging down. There was a man talking to them very quickly through the rolled down window. We continued to walk towards the spot, which at that point we sat down and agreed "Haha, that was weird!" and began rolling rollies. After having rolled one in the space of like 10 seconds, we look up and the police car and the man had suddenly vanished! We both agreed that THAT was very fúcking weird so we smoked our fags and decided that Latvia is a strange country (that was one of many incidents that happened in Latvia) and decided to start hitching and get the hell out of there!

So we started hitching and got a lift from this very sound Lithuanian chap. We wanted to go to Poland, and he was going to Vilnius so halfway through the journey our routes had to split. No bother. He dropped us off at this large unoccupied square piece of cemented land at the side of the road, it was a truck stop he claimed. To the west of us, was endless vast forests, and to the east of us (by the "truck" stop) was vast cornfields. The Lithuanian countryside is beautiful but also a little haunting! It was dead quiet and there was no traffic. There was NOTHING around us except the countryside and the road. Anyways, by the time the driver drove off it had gotten dark. We walked across the road to where the forestry was and we sat down and began nomming on sandwiches and whatever other little bits of food we had. All of a sudden, we hear a young girl SCREAM. She started screaming something incomprehensible in Lithuanian. Naturally, our instinct was to run across the road by the cornfield/truck stop area and see what was going. We caught a quick glimpse of some men running through a cornfield and out into some trees. Then, all of a sudden, we hear a car revving and we turn to our left and see a car speeding down the road, the direction away from us.

We were both pretty shocked and didn't know what to do, so we kind of just stood here looking at each other gobsmacked and started naturally rolling a fag each. After lighting up a police car suddenly appeared out of nowhere and started asking us questions in Lithuanian, we explained in English that we're just foreign hitch hikers. He asked us in English "what are you doing here?" and we told him we simply just got dropped off here. He said to us "this is a very dangerous place, you shouldn't be here" and then proceeded to drive off in the direction we and he came (the opposite direction the other car sped off in...). We were both pretty spooked at this stage we just walked back across to road to where our bags were and I dunno, just sat and speculated for a while.

We got our sleeping bags out and set up camp behind this kind of dirt mound, it was like a small hill and lying behind it it shielded us from views from the road and from the beginning of the forest which was DIRECTLY to our left. Anyways, we both found it pretty hard to sleep that night but at some point during the night we managed to find a wee bit of kip. It was pitch black at this stage. We were both woken up by a car revving and then speeding down the road, like earlier. We said nothing to each other and lay there, waiting, wondering. About 10 minutes later we could hear a crunching in the woods, someone stepping on leaves and brances and all that stuff, you guys know what I mean. We could hear this RIGHT BESIDE US. Walking, snapping, crunching. Then we heard some whispers. We could hear them loud and clear but obviously couldn't understand the Lithuanian spoken. After about 5 minutes of whispering, the crunching/walking started again and all noises ceased. We were fúcking terrified at this point. My mate had this small pocket knife that he took out. We took turns on sentry duty. One would sleep while the other lay there awake with the knife in hand. Before it was my turn to sleep, my mate said to me "A, it was fúcking nice knowing you. I'll see you in hell"

By 8am the sun was shining strong and we had both fallen asleep, he with his little shítty rusty pocket knife in hand. We heard a car pull up very aggressively very close to the mound we were sleeping behind and we heard a car door slam and someone walking towards our direction. Then we heard 2 men arguing in Lithuanian, car doors slam again and a car speeding off. About an hour later when we were positive it was clear we got up, packed our bags and hitched hitched hitched.

I have NO idea what happened that night. Those screams, that sudden police officer who appeared, told it was dangerous, then vanished, the whispering and walking in the woods, the argument in the morning. Like I seriously have no idea! Also, the seemingly dead Latvian police officers who vanished 10 seconds later the night before? Wtf was that about haha! Me and my friend always talk about this and we always are in such disbelief that we are alive and not some collection of bones rotting in a forest in Lithuania. We try tell this story to people but it never comes out right, it never hits home, no one gets nor ever will get how truly fúcked up and terrifying that was. A night of mystery and terror! I would sincerely love to know what was going that night. Or, maybe I'd be better off not...

Yeah but most of the time they fall into the catagories of coincidence, half-waking dreams or magical thinking.
At least a creepy person is a real thing that actually happened, rather than a thing you think might have happened but might have been nothing. :p
it perhaps sheds some light on how a lot of supernatural belief systems came in to being.

    True that.

Back in 1999, we rented out Shakespeare in Love from Xtravision.
About halfway through, I needed to pee, so we paused the tape.
I sprinted upstairs to the bathroom and got down to business, trying to be as fast as I could.

My heart rate was high and mid-wee-stream, I craned my head back and focused on
my jugular vein, throbbing quickly due to the sprint up the stairs.

    Next thing I was aware of was of being in a brilliantly white and bright room and feeling extremely confused and a little afraid. A few moments later, my cousin and my uncles wife appeared. They smiled said;

"Don't be afraid, everyone is waitng for you".

At this point I woke up on the bathroom floor, confused, fortunately unhurt and very much unnerved.

Eeeeeeeeeewww does that mean you covered the whole room in wee?

I've worked in a large north Co Dublin psychiatric hospital for the last 20 years.
Back in the 90's I lived in the nurses home on campus and had mates working night rounds.
So, at 1am I'd call over to one of them, when his own work was done and bring the PlayStation and have an hour or two of gaming before heading back.
Thing was, over half the hospital was vacant, with the three storey structure looming in the dark, blacker than the sky itself, with only emergency lights inside providing meagre illumination in one or two of the pitch black squares that denoted windows.
Is have to walk for 5 minutes past these, returning to my lit front door.
The thought would run through my head "Well, if there was an axe murderer, escaped from the asylum, he'd be here somewhere!" and it would spur me on to walk a good deal faster!
Along the way there were thickets and old hedgerows, overgrown, and the paths all broken with age, so you'd be watching your back and where your feet would be going at the same time.
I've never been so creeper out as on that walk.
I must have really loved my PlayStation!

I've just read this whole thread in 2 days... yikes!

I've experienced lots of strange bits n pieces over the yrs....

7 consecutive nights i had a dream that jesus was on the cross and I had my back to him running away through a crowd and he was calling my name... yrs ago it was... any ideas? that was weird

My dad worked in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham... he was up the top floor with an electrician I think fixing some lights... he said it was eerie up there but ya no yourself.. so what? thought not much of it... but he said he was facing a very long corridor and saw a nun or nurse hes not sure but dressed all in white just glide up the dim lit corridor towards them... he said his legs went to jelly and he had to run towards her to get back down the stairs... so both grown men ran... towards her and just made it to the stairs, he said he doesnt know how one of them didnt brake their necks on the way down they were running that fast. got out to the security guy outside... he knew what they saw and said that that noone thats been up there has ever went back up for a second look...

My great aunt passed away a few yrs back, my dad found a painting on canvas of a priest... he brought it home to show my mam... and she saw a resemblance, they got a tophat at some sunday market that was like what the priest had on in the picture and when they got home my dad put it on and took the pic out to show us... but when he held it up ALL of the bulbs in the kitchen ceiling blew and there was shards of glass everywhere!

.... I was cooking dinner when I heard Gerry Ryan died, it was sad. I put my dinner on the table and BFs on the table in front of him also. All I said was I was never fond of Gerry Ryan and the lightshade just fell from the ceiling directly onto my plate. WTF like, thanks... stinger.

The great aunt I mentioned earlier was like a gran to me and lived with us when she was ill. After she died I saw her and I could describe her to a tee and my mother saw her walk down the stairs... my brothers claim they were slapped in the face when they were asleep and just weird stuff happened in that house... my mam swears on my life (f'ck off hello) that she woke up and two children were playing at the end of her bed... but anyway my dad was digging the back garden one summer to put slabs down and found a big cast iron gate apparently the gate entrance to a graveyard back in the day.

My brother got a black lab pup and he was the business, when he was about 3 months old my brother started bringing him on proper walks every evening to the local canal.

I was driving past and spotted them - asked if he wanted a lift so both him and the dog jumped in and off we went. pulled up the garden and all hopped out. Glanced down and found a laminated little pic of padraig pio. I'm a bit girly I thought it meant something rang my dad and he said keep that safe... so we went in to tell brothers gf and she freaked out big time. Turns out her mam died when she was small and always prayed to this particular saint. Weird thing is someone left a big pic of this bloke on her dads doorstep and her brothers had each come across this saint in their own lives... one found it while cutting his grass in the UK. so it was meant for her and she is keeping it safe. The dog died not too long after and they were devestated but believe he was more than a dog.

I rang my dad in my sleep last night, and asked him if he knew where I was. He didn't. Poor guy worrying. Then I managed to dial my mate Mark who told me "Stand up"... I did, asked me what I could see around me, "You're at home love".

It was really, really freaky. I had no idea where I was (lived here six months and it's certainly home) but I got lost in my sleep. I had no recollection of either phonecall till my mother rang me to make sure I was at home.
