Hi guys and gals I'm thinking of getting into doing a bit of dj'ing and karaoke as a bit of a hobby. I'm wondering what would be the best software or most common computer software used by djs to play karaoke tracks I tried googleing it but so many things pop up and I'm still no wiser but maybe someone on here can enlighten me :/ ?

Thanks for any help in advance

I think you need a CD player that is capable of playing CDG formats at the very minimum.
There are probably more extended versions of CDG which will include actual videos to the songs too and some also will come with backing vocals that can be faded out if needs be.
    Google it for more info.

Thanks mate but I know karaoke machines are CD+G formatted because I useta do karaoke years ago using discs and a cd+g player but tbh they were too unreliable with CDs getting scratched etc. what I want to do now is work with a digitised version where I can download all my karaoke tracks to my computer or hard drive etc. and have a fairly decent software on my laptop to play them if that makes since :/ ?

Best option IMO is Cross dj by mixvibes, will do video/karaoke. It costs €130 including vat for the pro version. I've not used it but I believe it is quite stable. Virtual dj will also do video but is a lot more expensive. I did karaoke for a short time as one of the places I played asked me to. It was fooking soul destroying between people abusing you when they had to queue to sing, dropping mics pi$$ed etc. would never ever do it again. Then again if you are into it yourself and you've a good crowd you might enjoy it. Good luck.
