When a single egg splits, and two foetus develop into two calves , and one is male and the other female. The female Will not breed, i think she is effected by male hormones in the very early days of development.

    whats a freemartin?

A twin heifer to a bull. 5% chance or so of breeding. 95% chance of never breeding! Perfect for beef though.

I would think even two seperate eggs developing as twins, one male one female would still result in a freemartin.

It doesn't apply to the bull. Twin bulls either bull/bull or bull/heifer can be fertile.

I wasnt talking about the bull calf, its the twin heifer has excess male hormones or something. Some of them will take great interest in cows in heat, just like a teaser bull, but of course ya don't need to get them operated on!

Our vet was on a junket to Madrid a couple of years ago and some of the crew went to a bull fight. All large animal vets well used to blood and gore and they were disgusted to a man by what they saw. He commented on it because we were just going out to read our own big ho bull all 900+kgs of him and contrary to boot. Yer man didn't see us coming and after his inital start turned to face us. "That's they boy they wanted in Madrid" he said. The bulls they were fighting were little bigger than good weanlings and before they go into the ring the cartlige in the neck is severed so they have too keep their heads down. The poor fcukers are already half blind with pain and have never seen a man on foot until they get into the ring. They're always herded and moved by men on horses.

The vet reckoned any good stockman with an ash plant and one of bobs dogs would have no problem handling them provided they weren't already driven mad. They have around 5 in the bullrings incl at least one on horseback. He'd have loved to see our boy let into the ring uninjured as he was already wicked, (we were out of test so had to wait for cards to come back before he was factoried), and had no concerns about a man on foot.

p.s. the vet didn't examine him too closely for lumps. Everything else was clear and he was going to factory.:D

    Fair play to ya.
If it's wet I'll be on the thread mill but I have to do it in evenings so I can rest the back afterwards. I have a pair of runners in the jeep and if it's dry during the day I'll do a sneaky 5k walk at work.
