If I was to say something like "that Frada chap is a smug b- " Id get banned right away no questions asked.

But if I wanted I could talk about how much of gob****e ryan tubbs is or make jokes about Mary Harney having one too many mcdonalds and nobody would bat an eyelid.
The difference would be Ryan Tupperware and Mary Horney put themselves out into the public domain. Frada didn't. I also don't think you have free rein to say what you like about public personalities, it's just accepted that they will get to much abuse to single out any one person for it. whereas a private citizen that doesn't have thousands of people commenting on them is going to to have the time and inclination to do something about slurs made against them.

Well in fairness, we see a lot of people getting stick on here and its not always people who are famous because they put themselves out there. Some people have gotten famous for stuff that.... well stuff they probably would have rathered hadn't happened..... KPMG girl for example.

The reason you'd get banned is no so much to protect frada's feelings but to stop a back and front flame war between posters.

What if they war was through PMs?

    You mean PRIVATE messages?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I don't really know who this Frada character is. However, he is been spoken about in referntial tones. Must be one of the 'old crew', getting emotional about the days of 3am backups, Bubbles, the day Sarky made a really zany post in the Cuckoo's nest and so forth.

A regular Colossus striding across the AH forum of debate, casting aside 'newbs' and 'trolls' with a cynical and pithy post. An online giant. I've always felt that I ever went to a beers some of these metophorical giants of AH would be just really fat men with no sense of fashion, very little to say, and with a vague smell of old mushroom emerging out of their sweaty pits.

NO. You can't. Sitebans are often handed out for abusive pms.

.... if Bertie signed up would that mean all the moaning about him would have to be stopped? :D

Actually I've been a proud member since '07.
I don't mind the moaning because, basically, it doesn't bother me one tiny bit.

If you put yourself in the public eye its expected you will be criticised but if you post on a public forum you shouldnt expect to be personally abused for expressing your opinion no matter how unpopular it may be ,argued with yes, but not personal attacks

Criticised for things you say and do yeah, not just for nonsense though. Boards aint for it and its been commented on many times by admins along with dav throughout this site.

Just wondering is it basically you can attack someone so long as they arent members? Or if Bertie signed up would that mean all the moaning about him would have to be stopped? :D

The television forum has taken a stronger line on stuff about Tubridy so in time that will probably filter down to AH. I'll sadly miss the original jokes about Harney and Tubbs when they are banned.
