Just remember ''Gay community'' single fathers support you so in the future you can return the favour. :D

You positive you're not one of us? Sure, you even have BEAR in your name. I'm going to have to look through the handwritten register... eireannBEAR bear bear... where is it now? (I'm the one who keeps the names of all of the gays in our 'community' book).

    :D

We now have new Constitutional provision about best interest of the child. Whether that improves the laws on guardianship rights of married and unmarried father being comparable is up in the air

This does not have really have a postitive bearing on equal rights for fathers

Unmarried fathers are still in the boat that they are. Even if a gay had a child from a hetro relationship, but is now married to another person (whether gay or hetro) , the relationship with the child is the same. It will help if the father was married to the mother (guardianship wise) or has little difficulty getting those rights as an unmarried dad

Thanks for the reply,im not going to derail the thread any further and while i dont fully understand the implications of gay marriage for single dads,Some of the fathers rights groups believe it will have a positive effect in this area.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

That's okay, you're always welcome, whatever the name is or what it sounds like :)

... unless it has kkk in it, or something like that. Then we'd chase you away ;)

I suspect that the individual in the second link you presented is only behaving that way to get a rise out of people and get his name out there - it's the worst form of journalism!

Joke's on you Salsa girl! I didn't have a penny at all!

And now I have the names of one of these 'gays' that every one is talking about.

    My research can begin.....

Im not pushed on this matter, but i will vote in favour,I find it disgraceful that the governments wasting money on a vote though, surely it can be pushed through without one.

Just remember ''Gay community'' single fathers support you so in the future you can return the favour. :D

I don't support the rights of single fathers in the hope of horse trading favours. I support it because providing fathers with rights with regard to their children and children rights with regard to their fathers is the right thing to do.

In the same vein, I would hope when the marriage equality referendum takes place you vote yes because it's the right thing to do.

Yeah about 10 years ago. It fell apart - a lot of young turk PDs were involved.

Reminds me of when a poster was banned and went off to pridon complaining about the lesbian agenda.

I really wouldn't bother researching Manning or Waghorne. They're not interesting. Mannings appearance on Primetime was frankly obnoxious.

The debate has nothing to do with gay-marriage.
    Gay-marriage is a smokescreen

The battle is to keep those dirty queers from adopting fine upstanding Aryan Catholic children, and preventing them from doing their communion and stuff!

They're too late, we already can. I'm going off to adopt one now so I can tell them Santa doesn't exist. :P

Can you start s thread to discuss this rather than derail this one?

That's been suggested to him numerous times before. But for someone who keeps bringing it up, he's amazingly reticent to talk about it in the appropriate venues.
I'm asking why. I still have no answer. The rights issues you are on about can be settled with civil partnership legislation. You have not explained why marriage should change.

The position of marriage in the Constitution means that it can never have a direct equivalent. Civil partnership would always have to be in second place.

Besides which, if you're okay with gay people getting the same rights and duties as marriage, why would you put the State through the inefficiencies of operating two separate, but identical laws and systems. It would be far simpler and more cost effective to just let gay people marry in the same way as heterosexual couples marry.
Once gay marriage is made legal, will it have any positive bearing on equal rights for fathers??

Not marriage itself, but the Minister for Justice is working on separate child and family relationships legislation that includes a piece about giving automatic guardianship to unmarried fathers. It's been in the news because of the extra protections it will give to children being raised by gay couples, but I think it will benefit far more heterosexual parents than gay parents. There's a briefing note here - http://www.justice.ie/en/JELR/Children%20and%20Family%20Relationships%20Bill%202013%20141113.pdf/Files/Children%20and%20Family%20Relationships%20Bill%202013%20141113.pdf.

There are no naming conventions in Ireland regarding calling yourself an Institute. Whereas in the UK and other places it's quite strict, you can call yourself a counsellor or institute and have no issues.

Hi,Thanks for the reply,Nearly all the dads in fathers groups have guardianship,This legislation falls utterly short the problem is joint custody,So the mother legally has no right to deny access.

Funnily enough the news was on earlier and they covered it. Two lads were about to kiss and they cut it out. They must be trying to cover their ass

It's rather sad that two people of the same sex kissing is viewed as unacceptable during the evening news but twerking is liable to make it in....

A lot of people are quite against the likes of gay men holding hands and kissing because it makes them feel sick apparently... (I don't mention women because while its still put in the same regard, people seem to have way less of a problem with it. I have seen lesbian couples many times on Dame St in evening time and nobody seems to throw any disgusting looks. Have two men and suddenly...)

On a related note, RTE have put themselves in an awful position by bending to Iona's will so readily. Shows how easily they can be manipulated, and that is very worrying.
