I need a couple more inputs on my current quad lnb dish to add a couple more freesat boxes, however I am not sure whether it would be better to go with a new octo LNB on to the existing dish or if I should just get a 2nd dish with quad lnb. Any opinions for or against either? For price I am looking at going the 2nd dish option, only about €50 where the new octo LNB will be more than that and will be installed on the existing dish which is about 3 years old and then both would be independent should anything go wrong.

Octo lnbs aren't that expensive, they're here for €25:

And 3 years is nothing for a dish, my current one is 8 years old.

I would certainly be going the Octo route.

BTW a second dish technically requires planning permission.

I agree with gtg60 an octo LNB is the quickest and cheapest option. I use them on my dish.

Do you have a Sky oval dish or a non-Sky standard dish, be sure to buy the correct one for your dish.

how do you know what mark sky dish you have?
going to do a google, but posting here at the same time in case I get more/better information.

just did some googling, cant tell the difference between mk3 or 4, mine was only recent, just over a year old, so probably mk4

According to Satcure - Sky MK4 minidishes were manufactured after April 2009 and have a different LNB attachment method from earlier minidishes. The LNB arm is an inverted U in section, with the lower section open (i.e. it is not a closed tube)

    MK2/3 are a tube with internal arm dimensions 28 x 18.5mm

I got my rusty sky dish replaced a few weeks ago & got a new octo lnb with it, if you are anywhere near Athy, you can have my old octo lnb for nothing. Drop me a pm if you want it.
