Thanks mate but can you tell me what firmware actually does

Firmware updates that have to manually flashed to the box for fixes of issues some users might be experiencing from time to time. Its not a requirement to have the latest firmware all the time.

If it aint broke, dont try to fix it! :)

Noticed recently that all BBC channels went HD and a few channels changed frequency, so an update to the channel list in the link. Based on 1.24b1.

Here's one for firmware 1.25 http://www.mediafire.com/download/9whau7w04y9dsmu/150Combo_29Dec13_V1.25B4.abs although if you are on 1.24 now I'm not aware of any advantage over Patch's list

Actually, we'll hopefully see a 1.26 version soon; they're taking long enough about it.
Just one thing I did of late. I got a new external disk, WD Ultra Passport. Both my other external disks had power supplies and were a bit suspect when unmounted when the box was powered down. But the WD disk has been excellent on the ariva. Works well with live tv although I normally keep it off; no noticeable delays switching channels. It mounts properly when the box is switched on. And best of all it is powered off the usb.

Thanks Tony for explaining this to me...worked first time!
Only got around to it now...but the box is back up and running.

Anyone notice a loss of nearly all channels from the favourite groups?
It happened today when I was recording the rugby, occasionally pausing it etc. First I noticed that hitting the info button did not show up the normal now/next. Then when I tried to change channel I was missing almost all of them. Think I had fav group 1 & 5 left with just a few channels in each. Power off and on didn't help so it took a reburn of the user db. And I think this happened once before now that I think back. Odd behaviour; glad I had a backup of my settings.

Hey folks, Im a long time user of a Vu+ Duo system so a friend has asked me to setup his new Ariva 150 box which Im not familiar with,

Quick question, Im seeing several firmware files available. (Patched/unpatched, old and new) Im an OpenVix user, which is not available for this box,

Can anybody recommend what firmware or image runs best. CCcam plugin is needed.

Also is there a plugin for EPG, or how does it work, I use CrossEPG and autobouquets on Vu+ for my Sky listings

    Regards

Its not a linux box so not really comparable with plugins etc as far as I know cc cam discussions are not allowed on this forum.

Searching the thread there is plenty of talk about CCcam, nothing in the charter.

The rules forbid talk about card sharing, which I never mentioned. I have read the rules thank you.

    CCcam has its legitimate uses.

    Regards

So can you recommend a specific version, patched or unpatched firmware for this box ?

Or we going to carry on with unrelated, unhelpful posts ?

There is only the image that comes with the box.

There is no EPG plugin or autobouquets

To change cams go to menu, go to tools, go to network local setting, go to app selected and then press the red button.

    Regards

Well another week, another fantastic rugby match and same thing, favourite channels get wiped while I've been recording/pausing the game. I'll do a bit more testing but this is a real pain. Surely I'm not the only one seeing this? Or could the box be Welsh perhaps?

Pain in the ar** tonight. Taping BBC1 whilst also watching live. Paused for 15 mins. then began watching again. However, before the show ended, another recording started without warning and we lost BBC1 and missed the end of our show.
Because of the Ferguson's poor firmware, the BBC1 programme didn't record beyond the pause.
Does anyone know of a more user friendly Box which behaves more like Sky+ system?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,353 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Its got nothing to do with firmware, the 150 has one satellite tuner so can only record one transponder at a time.

First recording had finished by the time the second recording had started.

I was watching the first programme on a time delay having paused. This should have been on my hard drive by then, no?

I'm comparing this functionality to my old Sky+ box. From what I can see, the Ferguson box loses recording too easily.

In the PVR settings menu, do you have 'Timeshift to Record' switched on? This is what the manual has to say about this option:
Another option allows you to switch on or off the buffering of data gathered by the TimeShift
function. This means that once you press the REC button, the contents of the buffer will be
recorded and the recording shall be continued. This option is inactive by default, which means
that once you press the REC button, the receiver will start recording from that moment on.

    I

Yes in that case I think it should be on your hard drive. Apologies, I misunderstood what you said and thought there was an overlap.

Sorry to change the subject, could someone direct me to a link for a freesat channel list file for the ariva 102e mini? Is it easy to upload the free to air channels in a nice simple way? thanks ... last time I tried it I bricked the unit....

Can't say I'm familiar with the 102 but if it is like the 150 then it is easy to do. Unfortunately it is easy to brick the box too but as long as you are careful then it should be fine. As to where you get a channel list I do not know. Maybe there is a specific 102 thread?

If you do get a list then make sure, if you copy it to a USB key, that you safely remove the USB key i.e. if using windows select the remove USB device. Also, make sure it is for the 102 and not any other box. Finally, if you get a warning about the load then do not load it. The box normally does a simple check to make sure it is a proper binary; it isn't a very thorough check so it can be fooled at times.

Alas it is all to do with the firmware. Although I hadn't seen this particular issue I can tell you that, if are recording something and start to play a file during that, then the box simply stops physically recording the program without warning and actually appears to be still recording. It is a great little box for what it does (particularly as a media player) but it is woefully lacking in these smaller details. At the very least a warning about the loss of recording would be useful.

On the positive (read blindly optimistic) side of things, they are very late now in releasing a firmware update. Fingers crossed we might see some improvements if they have been working on their combo boxes. Hope so!

Yeah, any list I tried had a bin error and I didn't proceed.. Once bricked twice shy.. I'll just go through the channels one by one I suppose!

You cannot use a channel list from another model box. That will brick it and you would have to recover it with a null modem cable.

Well now there's a surprise. Minor update to latest firmware giving us 1.25b8. I thought we might be getting a serious update soon given the amount of time since the last one. But I guess not. May be that they aren't doing much work on the ariva series any more.

Have you tried it yet Patch ? Notice any differences ?

I haven't yet. Only just released this morning. Going to try it tonight if I can get access to the TV. I'll let you know what I find, if anything. Being such a minor update I expect maybe they've just improved their TP list or maybe the web links.
