I am just wondering as well, now that AGS have replaced a few wagons with small Courier vans is this more of a general purpose van?

Obviously Cork would not have the same selection of vehicles compared with Dublin.

    Re Cork Traffic Van.

What exactly is it for? Transporting traffic cones?

Or is it more a general purpose van considering it does not have the typical battenburg markings?

Does the rear light bar have red lights at the back of it?

    For commercial vechile stops etc

Cheaper mark it as regular than traffic

    Yes it has rear reds

Would this be one of the vans that were bought to be used as mobile Garda stations just redeployed?

Yes they were bought as mobile stations vans

They both look to be identical to the general one that came with the Avensis', so they both have rear reds I'd assume.

Does the van have the evidential breath test machine on board?

It wouldn't. Legislation does not allow for roadside testing using that machine even though it's designed to be used that way.

Why am I not surprised by that? I would normally use some select words right now, however with due respect to you all just suffice in saying, isn't the law in this country wonderful?
Just considering the man hours, the station personnel etc. To think that they could have set up a checkpoint, double checked someone's readings then into a wagon and off to a holding cell somewhere if necessary.

So the garda have no portable EBTs?

On a night shift a booze buss could process over 10 offenders road side.

You can only put someone on the machine if arrested. Alcometers at roadside to aid opinion or MAT Checkpoint.

The evidenzer can fit in a car. Look on their site and there is a pic of one in a rear central arm rest. Gas presumably in the boot.

Ah, here you don't have to be arrested. Should refuse a lawful request to provide a sample you are charged with refuse.

The penalty for refuse is higher than exceed pca

The law here is quite complex, and frequently tested in court.

Same here people will spend a fortune rather than use the bus

And the act specifically states that for the demand for an evidential specimen, the demand must take place in a Garda station

Is there a particular reason for that? Why the need for a station ? Could a booze bus or testing truck come under the definition of a station in the act?

Well I reckon the reason is straight forward, it is the fact that this is The Republic Of Ireland, where the law is more on the side of the wrong do-er rather than the innocent or those trying to police it.

Yeah, you don't want to be making it easy to prosecute people, lest the crustys start shouting "police state".

Guess it's more to do with the custody regulations and the legislation surrounding that.

I saw a 04/07  red Focus on the southside - VERY shiny, might be entrusted to whoever had the shiny red Mondeo Zetec S that I haven't seen in an age. Evidently SOME take care of their motors more than others ;)

I'v seen plenty of 02 unmarked focuses still flying about the place.. I find it strange how a car of that age hasnt reached the milage limit. I mean well over ten years of driving..

If a Garda car gets written off/damaged , and an other party is at fault does Garda head office chase the insurance company or the uninsured driver fund ??

@capri if there's a neck or spinal injury the roof comes off, you can replace a car, you can't replace your back. Better safe than sorry.
