Bah, I rediscovered my good old love - CS. Played last two days had a lot of fun, but I noticed that my ping is dreadful. any server I join I got 120-150ping!!! freaking god awful! Joined Irish BF4 server and my ping was around 90 too. What the hell happening...

~Did speed test, but looks like my ping is not the worst!

I never payed much attention to it, so I dont know how good or bad it was before. What could be the issue lads?

Router not configured properly? live torrents maybe? Eircom being themselves?

id ping the london/german servers on speed test to check what a realistic ping for cs and bf4 servers is like and atm my ping is lower for dub than for the server 20mins away from me in london

sort your server list by ping and see if you are getting crappy ping to ALL of them.Allot of game servers are out on mainland Europe ,make sure ports are forwarded .

Speed test to London was shocking:

    3229476652.png

At one of the test it was barely 1mbit!

The download speeds, streaming and general browsing is 100% perfect and fast, though it is really weird in games lately.
I was getting before 60 ping in BF4, but it is 90 now. ( which is not really bad I guess ).
What really pissed me off its the CS GO ping. I cant get a single matchmaking with a limit of 101 ping....

Damn, is it normal even normal. I do that speed test and when I try any other server outside of Ireland it is barely even 1mbit!

40mbit in ireland and with the rest of the world 1mbit? Or I am miss understanding the way speed test works.

Looks like my speed is no about 6-8mbit even doing speed tests on irish servers... WTF?! Eircom, wheres my 40mbit!

If irish connections pass through UK datacenters then it may be getting throttled around this time of evening

This is supposed to be a 70Mb/s line but congestion on londons BB infrastructure is ****ing crazy

I wouldnt test to Irish servers tbh as they're usually unreliable at the best of times imo

and for ping i always used london since a lot of game servers are located there

    Its just eircom.

UPC do have the ablity to piggyback off their sister companies (Virgin) to give them decent speeds and Eircom are Eircom:pac:

My friend who lives near by having it bad too. He is on same exchange too. Looks like all area effected. I really hope its not something to do with them starting caping our speed in this area. I had eircom for 7 years and I never had issues.

    did a test again:

    Fecking Joke...

So because Ive been having issues with youtube playback Ive been checking a few things. Clean driver install and clean afterburner install to check all that. Fine. So next I look at flash. Ive a Q6600 at 3.5Ghz and it goes from idle of 0-1% usage to 30%(spread across all 4 cores) solid once I begin playing a youtube video. Hardware acceleration is enabled. That cant be right can it? Flash has always been a steaming pile of crap but this just seems totally excessive.

So just waiting on the Sapphire Tri X r9 290 to hit HWVS and I'm taking the plunge.

Just one thing that's come up a few times in my research about them, what the hell does a graphics card have to do with coin mining?

    A test after 00:00

I smell Eircom throttling my internet.

This is a piss taking. It is quite interesting, that my issues started now as I started watching a lot more netflix then I usually do.

Whelp I decided to join the mech keyboard master race.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CITN98G/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thought it was a pretty decent deal, so treated myself to a late Christmas present. :)

Whats the best anti virus to get lads?

Kasperkey seem to win all the awards so is it them?

Figure its time i plumped for a full version of something,im usually very careful with my browsing and passwords etc but cant be too cautious i suppose these days with online shopping, banking etc

Been using avast free and anti malwarebytes free up to now

I like Malwarebytes , Isn't to resource hungry and catches allot!

Kaspersky is great but it's nearly overkill if you're careful with what you do.

Last time I checked MBAM had no active protection, its purely scans. Not really a full AV, just something to complement one.

Combination of MSE and MBAM works well for me, though MSE have had some poor ratings of late which has me considering a change.

The paid version of MBAM has active malware , hacking and phishing protection.

Not sure if you are on 7 or 8, but in 8 windows defender got an upgrade to full a antivirus program (essentially incorporating MSE) and comes out of the box, it is probably sufficient for most users.

It certainly the first Windows OS haven't felt the need to install additional AV software.

Can any of you recommend a good cheapish 16gb or 32gb usb stick that's not really slow? My Jetflash 600 just died!

Pick up something on MemoryC perhaps? They have good prices, and their shipping is in the realm of 50c for something under 15 quid and free otherwise.

I'd vote kaspersky PURE, it's designed to be less of a resource hog
For the second choice it'd be Eset Smart Security, includes AV/FW and real-time malware detection... the usual. Running ESS on my systems at the moment.
I am running either one of these 2 only for real time malware detection only, don't feel the need for full PC scan as these guys are pretty ruthless with suspicious files

    from eircom:

    Hi All

I have been informed that there has been confirmation of a break in a major cable under the Irish Sea.

This has created a lot of issues on the network and explains a lot of the issues you have raised in the past couple of days. I would like to assure you that divers and engineers are being dispatched tomorrow morning to begin repairs.

At present we do not have a specific timeframe of how long repairs are expected to take however there are indications that this could indeed take up to a couple of days. I will do my best to keep you updated on any further information I may get.

    Thanks

    Al

I googled these under sea cables and I could not believe that these thing are in use.

Erm, that's the reason the internet exists dude... how else do you think the world would be connected without cables? :P

Has anyone ever slipstreamed 8.1? What are you using? Need all updates and slim it down so it fits 3.67GB, don't care about drivers
    x64 pro

current installation is 22.5MB too big, can't fit onto 4GB USB

edit: converted to FAT32 and was able to squeeze 8.1 on a USB. Guess I'll give WinReducer8 a go for the slipstreaming updates part.
