Am I the only one wondering what or how is a child doing with oil?

What kind of oil? Who said your kid done it?

I don't have a notion what's going on here at all lads.

Neighbour is accusing Pinchy, not their kid. I think.

Eh I think if you dragged oil in on your shoes then you should be paying for the damage, especially since they request that shoes are left at the door (an understandable request as shoes are filthy). So why da heck did you insist on keeping your shoes on? Pay up OP. Next time, when visiting their house respect their house rules!

Sympathise with her. Tell her you have now cleaned your shoes. Then tell her your glad it didn't happen to your carpet.

If this was In the motors forum they'd expect you to have shoe insurance.

**Seriously. Apologise and offer to have it cleaned. **

Some people like to have expensive things and don't like outside shoes being dragged around their gaff. Their house, their rules.

If you damaged my property I'd be letting you know as soon as I could.

I'm guessing she's a bit of a Hyacinth Bucket, but it's her carpet, your oil and ..hang on, where'd the oil come from? Maybe she had an oil-trap set for you and you stumbled through it. She could be there picking out new carpet as we speak, laughing about how she never liked the other one anyway. I think you need a forensicicist to run dna tests and stuff. This could be an elaborate scam...or else you had oily shoes.

Oh I see what's going on now!

Yeah OP it's your fault. How did you get oil on your shoes? Is your car broke or something?

Yeah its a good question. They have a tiled porch and I usually stand outside while waiting. The two lads were playing a game on the ps4 and I went in to check it out - school boy error.

Anyway in the intetest of good neighbour relations, I called around and there are indeed spots on the carpet - without detailed ch3mical analysis i cant be sure if its oil. Looks to me like dirt. Cleaner organised - chalk it down to bad luck

Not sure what you were expecting there - I suppose a lot of people would tend to tell them to go fook themselves, but i'd like to think I'm a bit above that. Maybe would have made for a more interesting thread

People who don't wear shoes inside =/= uptight people

As much as Irish people seem to think that that's true...

As a nation we also struggle with responsibility. Hands up, problem being sorted.

It's actually quite common amongst Eastern Europeans not to wear shoes inside, nothing to do with being uptight.

No idea if its oil or not, maybe I'll engage a chemical engineer to analyse the stains. But being wearing the same runners all afternoon in my own house and no stains there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭sparksfly

    Hold on there now.

What proof have you that the stains were not there before your visit?
Did your shoes leave oil on the carpet in your car (assuming you drove)?

There would be traces left on your shoe regardless.

I'd tell her where to go pretty fast.

Did she ask him to take off his shoes? If I invited someone into my home, and they got dirt on the carpet, I'd clean it and ask them to wipe their shoes next time....or have the child ready to go when the dad calls so he doesn't have to come inside.

When I lived in Korea you'd be murdered if you stepped inside someone's house with shoes on. Wouldn't mind though my floor was still scruffy.

Personally I'd be a bit more chilled out about these things. Maybe have a go at spot cleaning it myself, rather than staring at the stains like the world had ended.

Maybe not this time but it was already established as to what type of house it was.
