as far as nobody cares. I asked a serious question and I'm still waiting for an answer? Also just so other fellow posters know, I am not all about questions, I have a lot to offer here but I need to be utilized in the correct manner.

Yes the report writing will more than likely be included. It always has been and I can't see any changes to that. The info book says report writing could be one of the components of the testing

Only a few more hours to go folks :)

Have to say not looking forward to the online tests one bit but so be it. Got to do what we gotta do I guess.

Hopefully they'll give us some info and prep material shortly after the closing date

I'd imagine the two online tests are to get rid of the people that aren't serious about the job.

The people that just applied for the sake of it are the ones that are unlikely to prepare, and more likely to fail. Plus a percentage of people won't even do the online tests.

Yea I agree althou im serious about the job. Ive a course done and I've got home study material too but what if my wifi has a hiccup or the power goes off or or or.... agghhhh ! Head melt haha.

I do think the same, people that only applied for the sake of it won't be as prepared as us.
Getting a little nervous/excited now.... this is it :)

    Moderator post:

Folks, I've just had to delete another 5 posts, this time talking about something as petty as swearing on the forum.

The preference would be that swearing on the forum is kept to an absolute bare minimum and is not used gratuitously and without cause. It's very clear in the forum charter that everyone agrees to abide by, that "Bad language is unacceptable", however, there are times people's emotions get the better of them, and we tend to let the odd instance slide with a PM to the poster reminding them of the charter. Repeated swearing by the same poster will, without a doubt, attract sanctions, which is something we hate doing.

There are 3 moderators here who take care of the forums. If you see an instance of bad language that you find particularly offensive, the best thing to do is to hit the 'Report Post' button and let us take it from there. The worst thing you can do is what we call "Back seat modding" - and that is to take on the role of a moderator, and correct people on-thread. That alone is unacceptable, and you will only be causing trouble for yourself if you engage in such behaviour. As stated above - if you find that a post is offensive to you, for whatever reason, report it, say why in the box provided, and the moderators will take it from there.

As always, please do not comment on-thread about this moderator post. If you have a burning desire to discuss something in this post, please feel free to PM me as opposed to replying on-thread.

I hope this clarifies the forum's view of bad language on the forum.

    Back on-topic please and thanks.

I actually agree that gardai reserves have an advantage, well at the interview stage anyway. But as been said many times on this forum there are loads of other ways to show community involvement, commitment to a career and all the rest of it.

They might ask ''why didnt you join the reserves? Sure there are hundreds of reasons why a person couldnt join financially, busy earning a living, involved in other important organisations, family commitments, busy with college work ect ect...

I think some of you are getting too caught up in the reserve issue. Carzony is correct, there are many valid reasons for not having joined the reserve. Have a credible reason ready for the interview and the board will move on.

In my opinion the Reserve is not as big an advantage as many think. Some of the reserves have shown that they are not suited to the job in any way, shape or form. The Reserves system is great experience, and is a good way for the individual to decide if the job is for them. However is limited in experience progression as their role is so limited. Paperwork is huge in the job and you may be the bees knees on a Saturday night on the street, but it is the follow up on paper is where you will be measured. Having said that there are some very promising Reserves, who I hope to see joining.

Also guys be aware that your pay is going to be substantially lower than present members. Also be honest with yourselves regarding if the job is for you. Nothing worse than working with someone who hates the job (afraid of the physical aspect, hates paper, just wants to farm etc) Thirty years is a long time.

Well boys and girls I'm new to this so said I'd say hello.
I recently got a tour of the college in templemore from a friend that works there. Have to say it is some place! It's state of the art. Everything you could ask for is there. And a lot of it is new. There was cleaners and builders there the day I was getting it ready.

Best of luck to everyone hope to see some of ye in there

Thats exactly what I believe as regards the Reserves. No one is guaranteed a place just because they are Reserves. Some will have used it to make a positive impression and others won't. But activity in the many other forms of community groups will be an advantage also.

As regards pay rates if people join up without having full knowledge of pay and allowances they have only themselves to blame.

There are lots examples of work and volunteer experiences that would be of great advantage to the job. Really all a reserve will bring is the exact same training as everyone else will receive in the college.

With regards pay, it would be fair to say that until you get the cheques every week you will not realise the deductions such as GRA, Social Club, Medical Aid, Critical Illness, life Insurance, Costa Siamsa etc etc plus usual tax pension usc stuff. This will be on a reduced salary and no rent allowance (that is a big hit).

    Moderator post:

Yet again, I've had to moderate this thread. This time I had to delete personal digs at a boards.ie member, and this will NOT be tolerated. Moderators have taken adequate action where necessary on posters who breach the forum charter, but this is not a permit to make snide comments about said posters. It's been dealt with. Move on and grow up.

This is the last warning. Next time, it's profile infractions, and should this happen, you only have yourself/yourselves to blame.

Now, for the last time, back on-topic please.

Everybody has got one. Everybody is treated equally, unless your a Garda reserve and you get some "advantage"

Give it time you will get it, 25,000 people to get it, might take some time for everyone to get it.
