OK just got voda fone fibre installed and overall I'm happy at this point with the speed.
    3216390790.png

But looking at my vdsl stats I think I can squeeze more out of the line. Before I annoy Vodafone I would like some opinions.

AFAIK as long as SNR does not go below 6 the connection will remain stable. My attenuation seems OK also.

I'd like more upload speed ive seen some people on fibre with 20mb that is what I would be aiming for.

Since Ive tied myself into antoher 18 months I want to get everything possible out of the service!!

You're at 6.9! Thats why you're on a 40Mb profile. You're line can just about take that. It would need to be at 10dB down or more on 40Mb to make 50.

So are you saying I have as fast as I can get and there is no margin for improvement?

I have had my SNR as low as 5.5 without suffering disconnections on ADSL2+ where I got about 17 out of the 24 max

Also just got connected to VF fibre today and dissapointed with the results. First of all, I'm only 50 meters from the cab and my downstream noise margin is 24.7dB

I think your line is definitely a candidate for a profile upgrade...

Your attenuation is really slow and your SNR is significantly above 6 which is considered "dangerous" for stable connections.

Cheers Xcellor - yeah when I first ran the speedtest, I presumed that the noise margin might be close to 6 but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the results.

I think I will call VF and see what they say. I also expected the ping to be lower.

You'll do 70 fine. AFAIK they install at 50 provisionally and change up later.

AFAIK VDSL2 is a lot more sensitive, wouldnt want to run it so borderline. You can get away with 5 on ADSL2+ but its rare. Any fluctuations and it'll drop.

Unless there's a fault or improper setup thats the best you'll do until vectoring.

with vectoring the lines will improve alot.

7.0db is really the minimum for stable connection

Yeah 40 mb is plenty enough , jump from 16 and the upload is 768k to 10mb so can't compain

also got vodafone fibre installed two days ago and was stuck on a 30mb package with these results:

    sw60px.png

are these speeds/results reasonable enough for an upgrade?

    thanks

Get on the phone and tell them to bump you up you can take more than 30.

Just what I was hoping to hear haha, any idea of what sort of speeds my line should be capable of?

    thanks a billion

When your SNR down reaches 6-7 then you can't get it any faster :)

I would say you can easily get upto 50mb regardless u can get more.

Yeah u can definitely get more Snr down still good and attenuation low. Maybe try 60.

I'm so jealous of you all with your fibre! :P
I'm stuck here with Sky in a Fibre/200MB UPC area :(

Said the system wouldn't let them higher it, that it would be to do with the cabinet and I'd have to contact customer support - ah well, was worth a shot!

Idiots dont know what they're at then. Those cabs are designed to support customers on 100Mb when vectoring goes live, no reason why they couldnt set you to 70Mb unless your on a package that dictates a 50Mb limit.

So since last week, I have had a perfect connection until this morning. Wake up and no internet and also the phone line sound quality was very poor. Called VF and he said there was a problem with the line and an engineer would be out within 2-5 days.

So I asked him will I be without service until that time to which he very casually replied "yes". Its strange, my line stats were great and getting 68mbps down with a noise margin of 18-19db and now all of a sudden the noise level is 6.6.

I wouldn't consider it all that strange. Just that a line fault has developed. Not that surprising with all the recent bad weather.

Well strange as in I have never had a line fault before but maybe it's just a coincidence that I switched to Fibre last week.

Anyway, it seems to be back up and running now although it has cut out once or twice so will wait and see.

Does this page provide ANY indication of what fibre speed this line can take? On standard NGB and the line is capable of 15 meg however I've never once seen this kinda speed.

Have you posted this in another thread also? I answered it there - no you can't tell what your fibre speed will be from your ADSL stat.

do voderphone not just buy it from eircom

Your stats will change once you move over to fibre as you will be connecting to the closest cabinet, so SNR and attenuation value will change.
In my case, attenuation went down from 37 to 6.2 and my VDSL modem is synching at 71Mb/21Mb

But most service providers (Vodafone, eircom etc) can tell you what speed your line can support for VDSL if you call them or check online

Are you sure about that? I ask because currently I am not connected to the closest cabinet and this would be particularly relevant to my situation. Thanks.

Yes, your stats do change. On ADSL I had a noise margin of around 7dB and line attenuation was high.

Now on VDSL, on 70/20 the noise is at 17dB and attenuation is 3.3.

Yeah I know that but they keep pushing Roscrea back in terms of fibre enabled cabinets. It's now due in April, god knows if they'll actually activate it but was just lookin for a rough idea of what to expect is all
