i was the highest bidder on 30(ish) acres that where for sale adjoining my land almost 5 years ago, it was an executors sale and the family fell out so it was never sold. I thank my lucky stars every day that i didnt get it as 2009 and last year would have been very hard to meet the repayments. Auctioneer rang me today that the for sale signs are going up again tomorrow:eek:

tbh i cant remember, 5 acres of it would be crap the rest has had tillage in it for a few years, would make a nice block of my land as it has frontage onto a laneway- slight possibility of selling a site- there where 3 lots and there was 1 bidder for each. Our lot being the biggest lot. it is going by private treaty now was auction the last time....

Hard to see it being any cheaper than then if anything last prices have strenghtened in the last 12 months. Have you 300k handy.

Yerra you dairy farmers are rolling in lolly.

Forget about site value it a bonus if it happens down the line or you get a site for one of the kids.

Tell hubby he want to start working harder.

I know what it is like to be chomping at the bit.

What time is that at, 4/5am? Actually out of interest, what time do yas start the AM milking at the back end, or start of the lactation, is it crazy early and pitch dark? Once I'm going by 8am here at the sec I'm happy, usually at the breakfast for 9, or shortly after at though, only 45 in the parlour!

Very strange thing to be asking but I watched one of those 'Kill it, Cook it, Eat it" things last night
It was about veal. Are there many people who rear veal (if any) in Ireland?
I've never eaten it, (by choice) but i've seen it on a menu here and there.

I love a good cut of it, hard to get it in Ireland, very few if any at veal at the moment, couple of guys up north I think. Would you like a bit of suckling pig?

Leave the house at 5:15 roughly cups on for 5:45. It must be said I've it fair handy here, most lads I know would be out by 4:30 or earlier. During calving we were starting about 5:30 to due to a new parlour, staff a bit unsure and cow flow not magic. But normally id aim to be finished up by half eight or so and just work back from that. During calving it would be as black as your boot some days but ya get used to doing stuff in the dark. Used to be able to shift irrigators and feed out silage in the dark with no lights on the tractor, wouldn't be sending everyone to do it though, would be a few gate posts missing!

I'm debating whether or not to get a bonham this year and get slaughtered via a butcher friend of mine.

Farmer Pudsley put up this tread about dairy calves and there is a bit of discussion about rose veal. Not much of it going on now as there was a few years ago.
