Max Keiser: Ireland's biggest problem is RTE

I just read this over on broadsheet,

“The biggest problem Ireland has is RTE, the state broadcaster. David McWilliams can appear in a 100 theatres across the country and light up the stage with brilliant analysis and provocative insights into the financial mess Ireland finds itself. He can write books, host festivals and appear on dozens of TV shows. And all that work gets overshadowed by an act of omission by RTE who refuse to report on the financial rape of Ireland by crooks that should be in jail.''

    here is the article..

    http://www.broadsheet.ie/2011/02/17/irelands-biggest-problem-is-rte-says-max-keiser/

I think that some of the drama and documentaries on RTE1 radio are excellent, plus I like John Creedon, Dave Fanning, John Kelly on Lyric fm etc. But I am inclined to agree with Max Keiser on this one.

McWilliams is barmy as a brush even when he is comprehensible.
RTE only use him because they lack imagination.

Max Keiser is a fücking loola. Also, using the word rape to describe a financial crisis is, at best, crass.

Bull****. Irelands biggest problem is the Irish. The people we elect and the people who elect them.

Why are you putting up a 2 year old article?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Max can be a bit of a dose at times even though he does give some good insight into the global financial mess.

I stopped watching the RTE news regularly about two years ago and I can honestly say that I feel the better for it. I was watching it almost as a reflex as it was always on at Six O ' Clock without fail in the house growing up. I didn't feel any more informed watching it and the way it's presented is depressing ( as with a lot of RTE programming esp Fair City ). From time to time there are good programmes like John Kelly's 'Hell's kitchen to Hollywood'.

I read MTcranium's posts here on Boards.ie for the weather and I read the Irish Times in terms of mainstream news but only because it's the best of a bad bunch imo. I read Global Research online to get an alternative view on things like the Syrian situation.

Didn't McWilliams initially advise that the guarantee was good and now he makes money from saying it was bad.

RTE don't serve the best interests of Irish people.

Yeah we need less Irish, maybe we should import 6 million Japanese to become a majority here.

I for one welcome our new Japanese overlords.

I didn't read the date, I assumed it was a bit more recent than that.. oh well.

I posted it because I spotted the 'RTE national gem' thread, and by coincidence I happened to be reading the Max Keiser article at the same time.

No I think he advised that some sort of a guarantee was needed but I dont ever recall him advocating the blanket guarantee that the government went with.

Max Keiser is a doom merchant anyway and the article is old "news".

RTE is FOX news for de Oirishhhh. Hardly Max's fault. What hes saying is correct.

McWillams said we shouldn't spend a cent on the banks. Read his blog from 2008. Rape is an appropriate word for what FF/FG are doing for their mates in Anglo.

The word rape has more than one meaning.
    verb
    [with object]
1 (typically of a man) force (another person) to have sexual intercourse with the offender against their will:
the woman was raped at knifepoint
    [no object]:
he pleaded not guilty to burglary with intent to rape

2 spoil or destroy (a place):
timber men doubt the government’s ability to ensure the forests are not raped

As one of our primary journalistic outlets, what actual good investigative journalism does RTE do? It's the job of journalists to shed light on corruption and fraud in our society, not just by repeating what somebody else has said, but by doing actual investigative journalism themselves - where is that in Ireland?

We have pretty much fúck all of that, and not nearly enough has been revealed about fraud and incompetence/corruption in the lead up to the crisis, and even today many of the most important events during the crisis are shrouded in secrecy, and whistleblowers tend to be either ignored or threatened (not threatened by RTE of course) with prosecution these days.

I can't imagine RTE ever trying to rock the boat on any real meaningful issue, by actually doing some proper investigative journalism that reveals fraud/crime, instead of just acting as a mouthpiece.

Lol. And then the right-wing loons say RTE is "Pravda" and bound by a "liberal agenda" yadda yadda.

    Oh extremists, never change! :pac:

Max Keiser is a nut-job - exactly the kind of person people like the "Freeman" movement would love.

Eh...yeah...sure.. 'cause they've never had a monumental property crash or a 'lost decade' of struggling with a massive debt overhang and tiny growth figures...

but even during that, they had an army of japanese women

rte will never bite the hand that feeds it, and therefore is hopelessly compromised as a result.

In case nobody has seen this yet... Pat Kenny refuses to discuss the Trilateral Commission / Bilderberg group meeting which occurred in May 2010 in Dublin. He cuts the lady off and tells her that RTE has a complaints process etc.

And both the liberals and the right wingers get told to believe by the same RTE.

Its FOX. The voice of the government. The voice for those setting the agenda.

Ireland's biggest problems are the whingers who bitch and moan about everything and anything they can concoct. McWilliams being one of the pied pipers. He is a hypocrite and has changed his tune so many times no one can keep track.

RTE is terrible. I agree with him.

We've had seperation of church and state now we need separation of media and state. Until that happens rte will always be under the thumb of the government of the day.

Well he's not just saying it's terrible in fairness - he's saying it has a political agenda.

I wasn't aware of it covering up and not reporting on the gross misdeeds of politicians, developers and bankers.

The behaviour of the SAS in Gibraltar was uncovered in a documentary by Yorkshire Television.
Larry Goodman's shenaningans were first investigated by Granada TV
Paedophile priests were first revaled by UTV

    Are you seeing a pattern?

    Not only a political agenda.

They don't report these scandals they misreport them, on purpose like. The De Ohroigshhhinderpendent is similar. Won't tell you the truth 'till after you're screwed, then they really rub your nose in it.

@#Anglotapes. We all partied....... in Anglo.

The subtle thing here, is it's not what RTE reports (though the way it reports stuff is relevant), it's what it doesn't even bother investigating - a journalistic outlet can display a harmful agenda, by not going after certain types of stories, and by not acting adversarial to those in power (except on token issues that everyone else is reporting anyway - no actual investigative work done by RTE themselves).

Real journalism is muckraking and adversarialism, doing fresh investigative reporting/stories, and not holding back for fear of professional repercussions or budget cuts.
